I think I missed adding the key point in my query. It was more with respect to the performance, fun to drive aspect and lastly also about reliability as PD engines also did fairly well

Re: Used Skoda Octavia vRS or used Fiat Linea T-Jet

Performance-The 2.0 is much better. The 110 bhp and 140 bhp are both better than the 1.9.

Fun to drive-It is subjective and I like the 2.0 since it is refined and faster.

Reliability-In my books both are equally reliable

To add to what GT3 mentioned above, the 2.0TDi is going to be significantly easier to service in India (as it's present across brands in different stages of tune but primarily the same block with differences in turbo etc.)

Driveability is fantastic in the city as well!

PD engines create fuel pressure using cam driven pumps. Each cylinder has its own pump and fuel is infected to it in one shot. The benefit of this is punchier power delivery (in comparison to common rail injection diesels of their time using 90s tech) and in theory a capacity for extremely high almost silly levels of fuel pressure. The downside is lower mileage, less refinement and loads of noise.

CR, well we all know how it works, the benefit is more accurately computer controlled fuel pressure delivery. They are more refined, more fuel economic, less noisy and easier to tune with a remap.

PD engines may have held a few advantages in their time and may still hold an advantage in theory (if development towards electronically controlled ones can be made) but they certainly don't stack up to any of the modern CR offerings in any measureable way.

Re: Used Skoda Octavia vRS or used Fiat Linea T-Jet

Interesting thread!

Like blackbeast, I also own a 2005 July Octavia 1.8TPI. When I bought the car in Feb 2016, it had 59K on clock, single owner with ASC serviced all through out. Since then I have driven the car 23k Kms, its my daily drive, runs about 1100-1200 Km/ month, gives 8KMPL in Mumbai traffic and about 12.5-13KMPL on the highway. But most importantly it brings a smile everytime I drive it.

Its mostly niggle free and it hasn't been a hard road to achieve that. Few things that I have changed in the last 18 months of ownership:
  1. Front and Rear Shock Absorbers
  2. Front and Rear Brake Pads
  3. Tie Rods and Tie Rod End Ball joint
  4. Mountings
  5. Horn
  6. AC Cooling Coil
  7. AC Radiator Fan
  8. AC Electromagnetic Clutch
  9. Rear Window Winders
  10. All rubber pipings in the engine bay related to Turbo circuit
  11. Timing Belt
  12. Battery
  13. 2 Annual Service
  14. Conversion of Headlight into HID
All engine related work and Service happens at the ASC. AC and Suspension work were done at the specialists respectively.

Including all the above, the project cost has been less than 5L. And she drives like a beauty!

But yes, they need TLC. If you don't scrimp on parts and service, these cars go long, very long!

Re: Used Skoda Octavia vRS or used Fiat Linea T-Jet

Hi,

After checkout a lot of cars, as suggested by the community I have made up my mind for the Laura TSI.
Checked a Laura TSI in Gurgaon, 2009 manufactured 2010 registered, 89000km run, second owner.

Here are the things that I have noticed:
1. The suspension needs immediate replacement.
2. The clutch seems to be good (shocking as it hasn't been replaced even once according to the owner).
3. The timing belt was changed at 60k service.
4. The roof fabric sags a bit from the end.
5. Tyres have done 40% of their life.
6. The car has minor scratches, right front quarter panel and both bumpers are painted.

The guy had bought it at 72000km and except general service, has only changed the tyres. The car was serviced at Skoda ASS only by the first owner so no record is available after that.
Haven't taken it to Skoda till now but on call, the service guy has quoted Rs 60,000 for suspension work and Rs 75,000 for a clutch change.

Plan to get it checked by Skoda guys before finalizing but have I missed any major point? Also, what should suspension, clutch and timing belt kit change cost from an FNG?

As a general advice, please look at other Laura TSIs too in NCR, because unless the guy is selling it at a throwaway price, you can definitely get cars in better shape. Preferably single owner ones and lesser mileage that would have a more reliable service history.

Hi
The guy's asking price is 3L, may be able to negotiate a bit more.

Re: Used Skoda Octavia vRS or used Fiat Linea T-Jet

Hi,

Thanks to all the fellow bhpians, have bought a Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI. Here are the things that I have noticed about this particular Laura, will write my review about the car in general very soon.

The good
- Well kept engine, only 50,000 km run
- Well kept interiors
- New set of tyre
- Serviced 2000 km ago
- Full service record from Skoda ASS
- Great A/C
- Only 6 years old
- First owner

The bad
- A lot of scratches/ dents
- Some part of interiors need fixes
- The owner wasn't ready to meet, the deal was done through a dealer

The Ugly
- The suspension needs a replacement most probably.
- The windshield has a lot of scratches and one wiper was missing . Things like these show that the owner was very careless.

Planned fixes:
- Get the suspension fixed.
- Fix the deep scratches
- Change windshield.
- Change all Skoda Emblems
- Change Gear knob
- Fix vents

I live in Gurgaon, it would be great if anyone could suggest a place where these things could be fixed.

Bumping an old thread.
Wow that's really nice! When you say that the project costed you 5L. Does it include the price of the car as well, Or is this the cost over and above the car itself. If it's the latter, boy that's an expensive proposition.

But cheers on the car. I have had the chance of driving my uncle's now sold Octavia vRS a few years ago, and have been in love with the car ever since.
