Used Esteem or Old Honda City

Hi..

i am in the market for a used car up to 3.5 lacs.
My requirements are:

1. A nimble car with nice pickup and stability on the highway
2. Low maintenance
3. Reliability
4. Comfort and AC performance

I drive around 80kms every day in the city and plan to take 2-3 appx 700 km trips on the highway every year. i'll get cng installed in the car. i've heard cng is very successful in the esteem. what about the honda city? i plan to keep the car for around 3 yrs.

any other car i should consider?

any input will be greatly appreciated...thanks

OHC & Esteem are good choices though OHC belongs to an upper segment so has more power, space, refinement etc. Both the cars would be good enough for your requirments.

Additionally you could also look at a Baleno since it fits your requirments & you can get some really good cars for under Rs.3L. But make sure that any of the cars that you buy are not accidental pieces, if possible have them checked by a trustworthy & qualified mechanic.

Other options you could consider are the Lancer and the Accent.
Both should satisfy most of your requirements.

Havent seen many OHC's running with CNG, though some Lancers owned by cab companies do.

I had already rejected Accent because i don't want a korean car. Lancer i have heard costs a fortune to maintain. in fact thats what i wanna know about OHC and baleno as well.

The old baleno's production has stopped. though maruti dealers assure me that wont make a difference but do you think spares would be difficult to get in the future? same question for OHC??

I simply don't have the time to go around searching for spares...thats why i am inclined towards esteem the most....but in my heart i know i want a baleno or OHC

My friend has an OHC type 1.. He dont have any problems with spares.

The baleno is still being sold so there wont be any problem.. as the company provides spares for abt 7-12 years after production being stopped..
And both cars are well under your budget...

I dont know about spares for the OHC, it should be available, but as far as maruthi is concerned, rest assured that you will have the spares for a long long time. the baleno is a good choice.

Spares are very easily available for the OHC. Infact I was at the local garage yesterday & the owner was mentioning to me that finsing anything for my car (even in a small town like my hometown) is very easy & parts are easily available. However, he made an interesting point by telling me that spares for the Accent are not easily available in the open market.

i have decided to buy a OHC...
saw a feb 2003 1.5 exi in absolute mint condition...done just 30k with original tyres....even if the odometer has been reversed, it shouldn't be much of a problem...honda engines are good for 3lac kms atleast...the price being asked was 4.25 lacs while my last offer was 4.10 lacs..

what do you guys think of the price?
i am tempted because the car is in excellent condition...

will finalize a car on wednesday...

It's still a bit steep but since as you say it's in pristine condition go for it. Ideal price would be in the 3.75L range.
