2001 Black VTEC

On Sunday I found a Black VTEC in Pune at a dealer. Not sure if it is allowed to type the plate here, but a Black VTEC with Mumbai number of 100 is unique enough, I guess. Does anyone know it??

It had done 83,845km, 2001 March, 2nd owner, but was on 3rd party insurance. It was maintained OK, not as clean as what E_L found, there were some nicks. The engine had couple of bolts/screws missing. (Engine job?) The engine top plate was shining as new. Hmm? More doubts. Quoted 4L, but quickly mentioned about an almost fixed deal at 3.5L. So that is the asking, I guess. All stock. What's a good price?

What kind of repair jobs can happen on the VTEC? How bad a risk is this? I could probably find the service record from Honda chaps in Pune (there is only one), but the car may not be kept here at all.

If anyone knows anything about this car can you please let me know? If such *reports* are not allowed, PMs would work great as well. Thanks!

Dont let this VTEC mania affect your judgement. If you would contemplate this calmly and unemotionally, you would reject this car

Determinus,

If you see the first picture in this thread, the bolt we suspected missing on the VTEC is missing too . I guess fellow VTEC owners can confirm if there is a bolt present on the right lower corner of the engine (facing the car with hood open)where the block meets the head?

Should have taken pictures. Anyways, I am planning to go again with a Deccan Honda mechanic to check it out. As GBPS says, 80k done and suspect is no go. So I better clear that suspect part out. Which is the highest clocked VTEC here amongst us? Megazoid (he has a 2002 VTEC) told me that they can do 1.5 lakh without any issues. I will get back once I check it out. Thanks all, for "grounding" me back.

That would be a good thing to do. Also check with the mechanic if he can procure service history from the records. I am sure he might have access.

If this is the bolt you're talking about (outlined in Red), then yes even my car does not have it.

Yes Ishan, thats the bolt I was talking about which me and Determinus saw missing and suspected an engine overhaul done on the car. Also the exhaust heat shield bolt on the left side on the cover was missing which was removed for some reason by an ignorant mech or the headers have been worked upon.

Thanks for clarifying.

Hi,

Even my Vtec does not have a bolt there as there never was one provided. That is a earthing point on the block.

Its a little expensive I feel - 7 yr old Vtec with 84k on the odod should not be more than 2.5 Lacs - Maybe the number is more attractive to you
