Overpriced Ikon or not?

Guys, my sister is looking for a second-hand car in Bangalore. She mentioned that in one dealer, she saw an 2000 model Ikon 1.3 that has done 69000 km. The car has been check by a trusted driver and is said to be in a good shape. Dealer is quoting a price of Rs 2.4 L + processing and misc charges that would come to a total of around Rs 2.6. I personally think it is on the high side. I have told her to continue looking out for other cars in the meanwhile, while i check if the price is ok or not.

So, can you please advice me on this?

Also, can the bangalore people please suggest some good dealers for Second-hand cars.

DriverR, I bought a Ford Ikon 1.6 ZXI driven 45k kms for 1.5 laks a month back.

There was no dealer involved and I got the car checked before buying it. Excellent car and I'm loving it.

If my memory is right, the old 1.3s came with the non-ROCAM engine?
Isnt that not a good buy?

IMHO, 2.4L sounds high, but bangalore has comparatively higher resale values. Your sis can look at Automart and Truevalue. I wont say they are better, but they might provide a slightly better buying experience. Add to that a 6-months engine and transmission warranty. Remember, there is scope for substantial negotiation at these places also.

BTW, a year back some colleague of mine sold his 2001 1.3L Ikon, 59 K Kms done for 3L. I seriously wanted to meet the buyer and understand what made him buy that car, but the colleague (judiciously) didn't allow me to do that.

Thats wayyyyy too high even for bangalore. 1.5L is the ideal price give or take 10Ks. ask nitrous. nitrous ???

Thanks for the inputs. The search is still on. Will be looking at the True Value showrooms this weekend. She would be trying for an Esteem.

Heh-heh, just got a feeling of deja vu - too much of a coincidence if it turned out to be a Cayman colored one with 145k kms instead of 45k..............

(Benny, I was referring to Compenn's post where he mentions having picked up a 2001 1.6)

As Esteem lover says way to high and that too for an old 1.3 litre pushrod engine.. Try and find a 1.6 ZXI if fuel efficiency is not much of an issue you should mange a decent car for under two lacs for 01,02 model..

ok. Just spoke to my sis. She seemed to have her heart set on the Ikon!!! She has gone ahead with the booking and has paid advance. Total cost is Rs 2.45 inclusive of dealer's commission.

A known driver/mechanic who saw the car apparently testified to its good condition and said it was a good deal. Anyways, thanks guys for your inputs. I still think it is on the higher side, but it is now history.

You CANNOT compare car prices in Delhi and Bangalore
Second hand cars are WAY cheaper in Delhi.

Hyderabad and Bangalore are on the higher side - atleast, this was my experience when i was Car-Shopping.

Also - judging the car just on year and milage isint a good idea, right? I've seen cars in mint condition that have done 50k plus... and I have seen cars with 25K on the odo with rattling engines and deformed chassis.
