Which Diesel @around 5-6 lacs?

Posting this on behalf of a friend...his requirement is a diesel car which will do about 750km or less (per month) and mostly be driven on highways.

New or used doesnt matter to him, as long as it will be good on highways and low on maintenance.

Sedan preferred (Sumo, Qualis, Scorpio or other used SUVs in the budget ruled out)

Just to mention this car will be in Coimbatore..so probably we need to take into consideration A.S.S also

If you want/can go for a new car, I would suggest the the base Logan 1.5. It is frugal, the engine is refined enough and is a stable car to drive on the highway.

But I wonder, which such low running/month why does he want to go for a diesel engine???

Since the usage is pretty low, the Indica V2 Turbo should suit your friend fine. Despite being a hatch it is a big car and holds its own pretty well on highways as well. It is also hugely comfortable and incredibly spacious, not to mention a cracker of a VFM car. Well within your budget as well.

750 Kms is not much - Petrol would also do.

Diesel - Buy Logan Base Model or the T-BHP all time favorite - Swift Diesel. All below 6 OTR.

If the running is only 750kms a month, why does he need a diesel car? I think a Petrol one will do as well.

Thanks guys...the car may do more km occassionally but it is primarily for business travel so he wants to keep 'per km expenses' as low as possible. How about Indigo or Accent DLE (Used) or Accent CRDI (used)

Edit: Just spoke to him now, he will sell his other car (Zen), so he will use this as his primary car. Which means he will do about 1500km per month or even more. So please suggest guys...

Logan service in coimbatore? Any Logan owners please comment..

Swift diesel suits perfectly in the budget and A.S.S perspective. The car handles perfectly well on highways. However if owning a sedan is important then pre owned Accent CRDi/Viva CRDi is the next best option.

So now the confusion arises...new Logan or used Accent CRDI or new SWIFT Diesel???

I heard that Accent DLS is less on maintenance compared to CRDI (I heard CRDI gives lot of trouble after 50k kms, is that true? any CRDI owners post your views?

I am a proud owner of Accent CRDi and this was one question that I debated when i bought the car.(fuel pump issuses after 50K). None of the CRDi owners i spoke to, have raised this concern, and they are all happy owners even after 80 K to 100 K mileage. Everyone right from showroom sales guy , service guys to owners insist on fueling from a reputed bunk, Regular diesel. However I have seen the competitors talk about fuel pump issues of Accent to sell their product. Please, no offense to other members who own better /competitor cars. I have seen the sales guys from Maruti and GM talk about these issues when i went for TD s,claiming that Swift and Magnums do not get the issues like Accent.

Back to topic, Accent DLS is very old (pre 2003) and are less powerful, less refined and NVH levels are high with the 1.5 L Peugeot engine

I would say Swift D if it has to be a diesel car and as for the CRDi problems, well my friends recently sold his car after about 120k and reported no major issues with it.

I'd also suggest Swift diesel. If space if the first priority, then Logan would be a better bet.

My suggestions:
Swift DDis - If he can wait
Accent CRDi - If he is particular about sedan

Alternate would be buy a used Esteem and fit LPG kit

Ask him to look no further than the Swift D. Also, I guess waiting periods in Coimby are not very high.
