I think, after rocam's C.R. solution... MIVEC seems to be the way to go! If you can actually run 91 Octane, the only con seems to be the 'history of the engine'.

DF, any Mivec's for sale ? And thanks for clarifying on the status with the two cars. I have seen/heard of a few other cars as well having similar issues.

Harrie, if someone is able to run on 91 Oct on a Mivec engine then I am sure the compression on that engine is low. Its time to change the piston rings on that engine IMO. I really don't think an engine with 11.5 CR will run well on our 91 Oct since it normally ends up being 87-89 Oct when it goes into your tank.

Yippee. Viper, thanks a ton. Could you PM me any further details on the car or some numbers I could contact on? Will be grateful to you. Thanks a ton once again.

Theoretically speaking I do not think so. Specially if it is running the right compression. Or else Farhan wouldn't have insisted on running 100 Oct, specially when it also runs a knock sensor and is capable of retarding ignition to keep the engine safe. Anyways, I am stupid. Lets wait for Jitu and Farhan's comments on this.

Mitsubishi is believed to have put out the 170-175 hp figure after dyno-testing the engine using racing fuel. The new 4B11 has 10:1 and recommends a minimum of 87 octane, so I'm sure the 4G92 can easily run on 91 octane, considering it has a knock sensor.

u call it lag, some ppl call it fun ... revving up high to hit the vtec.
well some ppl prefer low end torque and others like to rev it high ..
so u can call it whatever u like..
or maybe u didnt drive it right .. ?depends on how u mantain the revs

Mcl - I was going to say Used RS but then some said it before.

What about a Turbo 1.6L B-Zen now that would kill them all?

Mcl - You want a fast car or you want a very FTD car?

Akshay, I am really bad googling. So I may not be able to come up with instant figures of engine model numbers or what octane they recommend but if I am not wrong the 4G92 runs a CR of 11.0:1. And from some look around I did on google I found the following.

One of the Mivec forums from NZ recommends NOT TO USE 91 Oct at all. Here is the link.
:: View topic - Best fuel for mivec?

Some more googling from other websites clearly mention that for a CR of 11.0:1 it is recommended to run 104 Oct fuel. Links to this.

Car Bibles : The Fuel and Engine Bible Page 2 of 3

7. What parameters determine octane requirement?

I also read Farhan's garage where he clearly mentions
Quote:
Fuel: Speed97 + Octane booster. Engine requires 100+ Octane for optimal performance.
I know it has a knock sensor but I hope you have also considered the fact that 91 Oct is at the refinery. By the time it comes to your tank it is 87-89 Oct. With a CR of 11.0:1 I really would not want to run 91 Oct gas in our country. And if a car is running our 91 Oct without knocking and is running fine performance vice then there is surely something wrong compression vice.

So how about actually contributing to the topic at hand rather than just nitpicking on such small issues?

Guys shall we cut out the Suzi vs Honda vs Mitsu vs Nissan fight? Thank you.

Busa, I certainly want a fun to drive car on both street, track and drag strip. Not an all out fast car. So that would mean no Bzen let alone a TCed one. Infact, I am not looking or going to consider any other cars out of the 3 that I have already mentioned.

After a really long chat with Jitu & couple of PM's with Chetan, the wave is once again in favour of the TCed Baleno. It surely is getting confusing by the minute. I shall wait for opinions for a week more. Still eagerly awaiting opinions from Sideways and Ananth and a couple of people who think it is best to stay away from this thread.
