I would rather recommend to look out for 2008 civic, if in all mere 20,000 is the difference. I am very sure, spending these 20,000 will surely give you a peace of mind and high resale value while after 5-6 years down the line.

Cheers

I am not very sure you would get a 2008 manufactured Civic by Jan 2nd week. Usually takes longer. Looking at production lines/stocks at factory/transportation etc... it would be end of Jan at the minimum you would get 2008 manufactured Civic. From what I've usually heard, it takes sometimes till March for 2008 models to come in.

More learned members of the forum, can you please throw some light on this.

I cancelled my booking for end of Nov 2007 as dealer said car would be available by 2nd week. It seems honda badges all car manufactured after Dec 15th as 2008 !.

Another dealer in Chennai said 2008 models are in transit. So they are also confident about 2nd Week of Jan.

If it is going to take March, then I would go for some 2nd hand car and wait till new corolla

If the Honda badge shows 2008 I wouldnt mind even if it was manufactured two years ago. After all, when you sell the car (if you will) then that is what the buyer will go by too. So you stand to lose nothing.

There's a talk of Civic Hybrid. Petrol version has no change between 2007 and 2008. This is what dealer has informed me.

I got a call from the dealer yesterday. They don't have the color I am looking for. Also, they won't be able to give the full corporate discount (15k) since they are giving 20k for 2007 model. So overall the package is not attractive. So I have decided to wait.. probably till end of Jan

I am still waiting for 2008 Civic

2008 model Civic is not yet ready !. I called the dealer today morning, and they said it would be ready only by mid Feb. Then they called me back and said, vehicle will leave the factory on coming monday and I will be getting it by end of this month.

Is this dealer fooling me ?

Get it in writing if you dont get the car by month end , you could claim for refund. If politely done, the dealer wouldnt mind and he would work harder not to lose a customer.

This discussion has occurred elsewhere as well. For purposes of negotiation, buyers will always use date of manufacture for resale value purposes.

For eg : if you shift a 2005 manufactured car into another state & get a fresh registration in that state in 2008, does it become a 2008 car?

Cheers,

In my view unless otherwise u get a benefit of 40,000 to 50,000 you shouldn't be going for the old model in such high end car... within few months you will see new Civics will be running on the road and you'll loose your brand new value of your civic. Resale would be definitely affected if you go for new model. But if u can manage to get a discount of the above said figures then its a good deal. Gud luck

exactly, this is neglegible for a car that costs 14 lacs odd
the interest you pay,the depreciation etc are much higher than what you can save with this discount..infact i wouldnt even call this a discount

I have booked a 2008 model Fiesta SXi. I made the payment in first week of Jan and i will be getting the delivery this Friday. I was also facing the same dilemma. Finally decided to buy a 2008 model because the cost of discount earned now is not more than . Fiesta sxi will cost 8.5 lacs on road. Here it is a question of Buying a Civic which will cost 14 lacs on road. I suggest you to buy a 2008 model.
