My Friend Needs Help - Budget 6 to 7 Lakhs

Hi,

My Friend is looking for a second New car, he has an old Esteem.

Requirements:

Budget: 6 Lakhs Max Streachable to 7 Lakhs
Fuel Type: Disel
FE: Good Mileage 15 KMPL in City and 15+ KMPL Highway
Planned Retention Period: Min 5 Years
Boot Space: Max is required, however 400+ LTR is fine
Number of People: 5 Max
Usage: 80% City - Bangalore, 20% Highway
Service Network: Should be Good in Karnataka
Maintenance Cost: Max 5K per annum
Features Required: A/C, PS, PW, Central Locking (no need of ABS and Air Bags)
Drive Distance: 30+ dialy and 50+ Weekend
Driver: Self Driven
Leg Room: Moderate, as he is around 5.8
GC Requirement: Modreate, as at times he vists to his native, which we fondly call as Tribal Area (Pretty Internal Village, so roads may not be good all the time throughout the year)

P:S: Intends to buy during March and/or April 08.

Please give comment and suggest / advice.

Best Regards

Diesel : 7lac mac OTR; 15kmpl avg; City use; Self driven; need boot;

Book the Dezire. Awesome engine for city as well as highway.

If you can get Indigo with the same engine then you can look at it too.

I doubt if there are any options in 6-7 Lac bracket for a Diesel, Except for the expected Swift Sedan, the only Diesel that comes to my mind is the Ford 1.4 Dura-torque which is available in Fiesta & Fusion but I doubt if even that is available in your friend's budget

How about the Indigo/Indigo Marina with the DICOR engine? Also the Logan.

It would be better to wait for the Desire's launch before finalising anything though.

Wait untill Dezire launch and pick up the Logan with hard bagraining! I suggest Logan Diesel because its truely practical sedan in its class. Indigo comes next and then Dezire If comes with score equal to at least Indigo and Dezire is supposed to be not as good as Logan in terms of practicality.

Regards,

Ravi.

well if you want that kind of mileage coupled with a reasonably big boot hmm,

i think the dezire can be ruled out now itself, even if it offers boot, i dont think you will like the base model, you see, the top model, swift is not released yet and the vdi abs costs around 6L on road! so expect the zdi to be around 6.35L and where will the dezire start?,
more over its obvious that they will not provide the base necessities like tacho, a cigg ligter, clock and the after market ones might trouble you big time finding one!. trust me i got a swift recently and had a hard time sourcing them! and also it just might inherit the swift genes the rattling part!

well since you will be doing 80% city driving, can you give a second thought to the boot? if you can then why not get the GETZ from hyundai that will satisfy most of the requirements except the boot part!, its got an awesome heart that i regret not buying, the 110 horses make me skip a beat!

other wise its the tata indigos for the price! and i personally dont recommend these for a period of 5 years!

the logan, has a very old and non mordern engine although is practical and good, but the future of 5 years is very uncertain at least for the diesel!

the fiesta might make a good car, but you will have to pump your budget higher for this car, but surely give a 15+kmpl mileage in city like Bangalore!, my cousin has one so i say this confidently!

well by the time you buy one i expect the fiat punto, stile diesel launch, the maruti splash ka launch and i still think there are 2-3new cars that will hit the market! in this price range, so better stay prepared for anything!

I would recommend 2 -

Indigo XL
Logan Diesel

Both are reliable and VFM Cars giving you the diesel advantage and a Boot and Good Interior Space.

These are the cars he needs to TD.

1.Indigo Marina DiCOR
2.Mahindra Bolero
3.Renault Logan

If he can do without a boot. HE could also look at the Getz Diesel.

Your all requirements are well covered by only and only Logan DLX, I would suggest to buy Logan DLX/DLS without thinking twice. Read more about my own Logan here:

PS: Almost every people appriciate Logan once its appriciated by any member here, I dont know why!!

BTW it has one of the most relaible engine available worldwide. Also Diesel engines are know for its long term reliability so you need not to worry for 5 years or more.

You will be driving ~40 kms per day makes you around only 75000 kms in 5 years. With Logan you need not worry for anything before 250000 kms or even more.

the engine could be very very good but then will the parts be available?

even the Peugeot had very good engines but, since the car was discontinued and the manufacturer packed its business out of India the sourcing of parts have been a problem to many!.

the Renault has just ended their partnership with M&M and the future doesnot look very good either, any info on the service backup of logans?

and also, this was the reason i suggest the logan is not good for the next 5 years as sourcing the parts might be difficult dont you think?
