Lancer Cedia/Magnum Diesel or wait for new Honda City

Hi Guys
this is my first post on Team-BHP.
I am planning to a buy a new car.
My budget is btween 8 to 9.

Shortlisted the following cars
1. Lancer Cedia Sports
2. Chevorlet Magnum Diesel.
3. Honda City.(Waiting for the new model to be launched)

Pls advise me about the prospects of a new City coming soon.
Also do guide me if Lancer Cedia is a good option.Would i be getting a good after sales service?
Chevorlet Magnum is a good car but i completely drool over Cedia's looks.

Will it be worth the wait for a new Honda city? If not then which is a better overall car. Magnum or Cedia. Pls help.

Thnks in advance
Anuj

A lot of other details are required, pls post details like

- Wats your monthly driving distance
- how long you intend to keep the car
- factors important to you like performance, comfort, FE, safety etc.
- whether the car will be self driven or chaffeur driven.
- More driven in city or highway

In general perspective Cedia is a very good option for its sheer performance and stunning looks. It is a very good highway car. Resale value would be pretty low. Buy this car if you intend to keep it for a reasonable period. Honda City is a very good city drive car. It has got a good FE and After sales serive too. No idea about its new model launch though

I have no much idea about Magnum Diesel but i doubt it would fit in your budget limits.

Update us on your buy and experience. All the best

Both are good options, the pros and cons according to me for the cars would be -
cedia-good petrol car with decent power ,low maintenence, space and quality.pretty good mileage too.
magnum-one of the best sub 10l car available, terrific power and looks, interior looks good too.
I prefer magnum over cedia because-bigger car, diesel, powerfull than a cedia.

The magnum has loads of torque and probably a better engine than the Cedia and loads of comfort/space and a softer sprung suspension. However thats where it ends. It lacks refinement, turbo lag is a significant issue, the brakes of even the ABS equipped LT version are not that confidence inspiring. The handling is ridiculous... it doesn't want to turn, especially at high speeds.

You'd want to test drive both cars and check. City is not in the class of these cars. I'd say buy what you like.

One more point i missed out-cedia sport has sporty red color.Magnum comes in the usual colors.I like the red and the yellow in the cedia.

Thnks Ram and reignofchaos.
I test drove the Cedia and absolutely luv the way it moves.
But I am apprehensive abt the poor mileage and the future prospects of Mitsubishi in India.Magnum scores in both these areas.
Reviews abt Magnum say that it just sweeps you with its torque.
I don't change car's often and keep the older cars.
reignofchaos - You have a Cedia, can you tell me the mileage you get and the overall satisfaction levels with Mitsubishi and the car in general.
With so less Cedia's arnd i get a bit more apprehensive.

Thnks

I am using Cedia sprots ( M-red) for the last 4 moths. it is an excellent car in all aspects. Turning in 120km speed is no problem. Braking is very good. FE is around 10km in city and 14km in highway. GC no issue. If you are driving by yourself and I suggest go ahead and buy Cedia. Resale may not be an issue if you keep it for 4-5 years. I have no idea about Magnum and City is no comparison with these two.

For 8-9Lacs, you will just get the basic Magnum, its better to go for the fully loaded Cedia IMO.

Hi PingPing
Thnks for your intrest in the post.
For whats asked by you here are my replies.
- Wats your monthly driving distance - 500 to 700km
- how long you intend to keep the car - atleast 4 yrs
- factors important to you like performance, comfort, FE, safety etc. Mix of Performance and fuel efficiency.
- whether the car will be self driven or chaffeur driven. Self driven
- More driven in city or highway - City driving mostly.

Honda VTEC is another option but i fear a model change soon.Don't want my car to look a generation old within 6 months.

Thnks

This is exactly what I was thinking too. Fully loaded Magnum will be at least 1.5Lakhs more than Cedia sports.
I find Cedia more fun to drive (Only based on TD experience).
This will certainly be a tough decision to make. Both cars are really good.
My mind is more towards cedia.

I think the loss on the Cedia will be a very big factor. If you can wait, I suggest you see how the City matches your requirements. The difference in the total cost of ownership of the Cedia and the city is, IMO, too big to ignore.

You don't need a diesel with 700 km a month so don't invest in the Magnum

Forget Magnum for your monthly driving of 700 km or any other diesel car for that matter(which charges a premium). Cedia is a very good all rounder for both city and highway. It looses its value soon on resale but considering your tenure of using this car you may still go ahead with it.

The following link may be useful on cedia.
:: AUTOCAR INDIA - CAR AND BIKE MAGAZINE ::

City though can not match cedia sports its again a decent car to drive in city with good FE, resale value and decent delear and after sales network. The following link on city may be useful.

I'm unable to find and help you out when new city is going to be launched. Team-bhp members are there for you to help you out.

I think cedia is more sutiable for you.
You dont need a diesel with 700km a month.
Magnum fully loaded must be around 11 lack.Cedia is fun to drive.

One thing to check would be the nearest service centre for Mitsubishi - their coverage is slightly thin now. Otherwise the Cedia fits your performance criteria and the Honda the FE. Pick whichever you like more, bearing in mind the resale on the Cedia will be quite a bit poorer than the Honda.

Guys
Optra Magnum LS is Rs 914449 ex-showroom Delhi, makin it 9.75 OTR.

I have seen reviews wherein people say that Optra has best comfort and remains composed at hight speeds.
Anyone owning a Magnum- Can you pls advise me abt the turbo lag.I have read that the Magnum oozes with torque past 2000 RPM.

Thnks
