Folks,

Please see an used car offer I came accross.

My requirement: New to cars, have to hone my driving skills and improve my general and specific understanding of cars. Looking to use it for atleast two-three years

Is the above deal worth it? Is the asking price reasonable, if not what should be a good bargain? Given its a FIAT sienna 1999 diesel which has done 95K, would there be any service/parts related issues?

Please comment on the deal and help me decide

Thanks

Sienna 1999 model?
I thought Palio and Sienna was launched in 2001.

This car has done 95K kms, suggest you to avoid this one.
Try to get a Palio 2003-04 model.

Siena Diesel would be 1700CC Turbo charged engine, its a reliable work horse but given that its a discontinued model and has logged 95k KM, sourcing spares/or even consumables can be a futile exercise, the rate looks on the higher side, 1~1.1 Lakh is what I would offer, recommend you to look at Petra D if you need a boot or a Palio D, but again both are discontinued models to but relatively newer in comparison to what you are seeing...

For a first time car owner/driver, buy yourself a maruti.
Buying a 9 year old, 1 lakh km done siena would make you cry tears of blood and you will lose interest in cars totally.

1.75k is way to expensive for a 99' old model and done 95k..a little more stretch you can buy a brand new alto or a used OHC or a good lancer matey,as suggested by finneyP Palio would also be a good option..any particular reason why a siena???

Yes.. High milage Siena's are a bit lethargic (though they have a Turbo) compared to the Palio D. We had one in the family and I think it got sold for 1lakh. Good price for a car that lasted 1.5 lakh kms.

Dont even touch it with a barge pole, mate. I wanted to buy a new(??) Petra D last year but gave it up as a bad joke for obvious reasons.

Better to look into some other car. A 1999 model and that to 95K run is certainly no no for me. As you are informing it is in good condition and if you insist to go with this, renegotiate this to 1.20~1.25L max. But no guarantee for spare parts availability.

Rocky heights, nothing more than Rs. 75,000/-.

Finneyp, Siena existed in old shape look as well. It came with the 1.2 engine that is in your Palio, 1.7 TD60 engine and a 1.6 100bhp engine.

I ran this query thru carwale.com

You have selected:
Budget (Rs.): 1,00,000-2,00,000
Listing type: Available for sale, Sellers: All, Cars from 50 km around Bangalore
Preferred Cars: Maruti Esteem

It found 17 results.

For your budget of about 1.75lakhs, visit any maruti truevalue outlet to check out the cars there and get an idea of current used car prices.

Yes, thought so. The last thing I really want to do is to run around for spares even before getting a hang of owning a four wheeler

Also, be careful. There are certian spare parts of Fiat are much expensive than the other models like Esteem/Ikon. The availability is also a big question.

Or, if you try the other way round, Carwale lists the price of a 1999 Sienna Diesel with 95k kms on the odo (if in excellent condition) as between 1.18 & 1.28 lacs in Bangalore, depending on whether it is a EL or ELX
