Honda will charge what they can get away with. As long as cars like the Linea, Vios (not yet announced), i30 (replacement of Elantra) etc.. dont eat into their sales why would Honda do anything different?

For a 10L car the 2009 City is poorly appointed. To the above you can add..
- No electrically folding outside mirrors (available on the i20)
- No Alloy wheels (again the i20 has them)
- No Side Air bags
- funnilly they offer cup holders for the rear passengers but I did not see any for the front passengers. I would assume the driver would need a cup holder most.

What made me not to consider Linea seriously is the choice of engines available. I also liked the futuristic looks of the City compared to the classic-retro derived styling of Linea.
Linea looks are pleasing to me but somehow like the New City looks better especially the front. Main reason Linea decision is pulling me back is A.S.S . I have owned a Tata Indigo so i have experienced Tata A.S.S and i personally had faced problems . Waiting for a TD of Linea to make my decision more easier.

Not 50%, but at least 30% cost reduction will be justified.

ALHC looks good for sure, but still it does not make it to my wish list at all.
ANHC AT costs 10 L onroad in bangalore. So do you expect 30% cost reduction on that and expect it to cost 7 lakhs? I think it is not realistic to expect a car with such specs and features for so less.

A.S.S and resale value are extremely important while making a decision to buy a car. When two cars are identical with may be one scoring marginally better than in some areas, it is better to look at these other aspects.

10L on road Bangalore is for the manual one, that is without alloys, fog lamps, climate control. An equivalent Linea will be 30 percent cheaper. ANHC has better engine and better track record in A.S.S. Linea has a better overall quality. What do you say?

No, manual is available for 9.2 onroad in Bangalore.
Linea certainly has a better overall quality (with respect to build, fit and finish not necessarily the engineering finess or reliability). There are some ommissions from City but it is still worth for the money I feel

I don't know if there were some changes. This is what Magnum Honda provided me in October:

Model Variant Ex-Showroom Insurance Road Tax T.R. & Handling
Price Rs. Rs. Rs Charges Rs.
CITY CITY E - MT 788,000.00 25,892.00 112,684.00 7,000.00 933,576.00

CITY S - MT 838,000.00 27,469.00 119,834.00 7,000.00 992,303.00

CITY S - AT 908,000.00 29,677.00 129,844.00 7,000.00 1,074,521.00

But if I look at Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. :: Price List, the ex-showroom S MT Bangalore price seems to be 817,900. It could be after the excise cut. That would make on-road price to be around 9.7L.

You are right. My quotation included some corporate discount and didn't include insurance.
I agree Linea which is a better car (except the engine choice according to me) is available for substantially lesser. Linea could be ideally priced higher but I guess lower pricing is part of FIAT's strategy.

PS: by the way, fully loaded petrol Linea seem to cost close to 9 (i was reading about ex-showroom being 7.8, not sure if it is accuarate) which is not 30% cheaper then City. But, yes it offers lot more features

It is not 'lower' pricing, but reasonable pricing!

Infact, Fiat has priced all its cars in India very well.

Had checked with Dakshin honda about 10 days back the quoted rates were
CITY E MT - 910,000.00 (OTR)
CITY S MT - 960,000.00 (OTR)
CITY S AT - 1,060,000.00 (OTR)

This was after the excise cut. I think Linea is much better VFM specially the diesel option is a killer.

Truth is out !!!

ANHC has 2 MT models: E & S
Linea has 3 MT models: Active, Dynamic & Emotion

In equipment wise, ANHC E falls between Dynamic & Emotion. For comparison sake lets take it as Dynamic.

Prices in Delhi:
Linea Dynamic ( 88.2 BHP, 1368CC): Rs 6,29,972
ANHC E (115.7 BHP, 1500CC): Rs. 7,51,000

So for 1.2L more, you get close to 30BHP more, a VTEC engine, 150CC + more.

This makes ANHC VFM over Linea.

What about the suspension, general build quality, looks and space. No offence to the ANCH owners, but the new car looks decidedly ugly to me.

There is another aspect to it, as pointed out by a magazine (I think BS Motoring) doing a comparision between Fiesta and ANHC. That is, 'you get back that 1 lakh when you are selling the ANHC 4 or 5 years down the line'
Of course, people who are doing more than 1000km/month can also save in running cost if they go for Linea multijet

No offence taken becasue there are many others who are going for ANHC for it's styling as one of the deciding factor
By the way, space in ANHC is more than Linea.
