I think you should wait. Seeing the trends it looks like the discounts wont go. Will be staying in some names or other. Also, 15K for a 15L car seems nothing. So, no need to hurry. Wait & Watch, unless you are really in need of the car now.

Toyota is reporting their first ever loss in 71 yrs. That is as depressing news as any. Shows how well their company has been run over the years. Well the point is that Toyota could possibly be giving out good discounts to recover costs and make some profit out of all of it.

hold the cash. 2009 will be the year of discounts, free-this and free-that. most businesses have not yet understand the extent of suffering that is in waiting.

Since you plan to hold it for 6+ yrs, wait for Jan 2009 and buy a brand new but 2008 production model from dealer at huge discounts (like I did for old 2006 Corolla in 3/2007). For that matter, buy any comparable 2008 car in 2009. I guess then 2008 Altis may sell at 75-100K discount.

Toyota to hike prices of Innova, Corolla Altis- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

Two days back I found 10 AT laying in stock yard. Today I found only 3 left. They offered 40 K off - insurance for last 3 ones.

Shinrai is giving 50k flat cash discount whereas millenium toyota is giving 20k cash discount plus free insurance worth 47k which brings the total to around 67,000.
Anyone gotten any better deals in mumbai?
Also, I read on the forum that there was a suspension recall on the Altis, the cars being offered are November'08 manufacturing would they be post recall batch?

The recession has begun and is expected to be at its peak by mid-2009 as pundits are putting it, when the car sales may plummet. Its worth a try waiting, if the need is not so urgent. Also Toyota has for the first time in its history reported losses since 1937.So they may not be very confident about pricing and may want to clear off accumulated stocks. This is my personal viewpoint but may help influence your decision.

My car which had the suspension and brake problem was Aug 08 batch, and it was reported that first 2000 cars had that problem. So seeing the sales chart NOV 08 batch seems to be post that problem.

Even though that problem was taken care off nicely but try to avoid that batch, specially if any one color is left from earlier batch. Do take a test drive of final car and at speeds below 20kmph do slow braking, if you hear any screeching noise then drop that piece.

I think in Jan 09 prices will go up a bit and may be in mid 09 they come down again along with interest rates for financing.
