Used sedan for 2.5L

I'm planning on getting my first car and am looking to get a sedan for inside 2.5L . I really like the ford Ikon but have been seriously reconsidering after going through comments in this forum. What other car can I reasonably expect to get for this price? The car will mostly be used by myself and my priorities are fuel efficiency and reasonable maintenance costs. Or should I be looking at Hatchbacks too?

For that amount, you could be looking at a 00/01 OHC, Baleno or 03/04 Esteem.

I would recommend the Baleno. Simply because you can get a 05 Baleno in good shape for 2.5 L here in Chennai. The resale is PATHETIC.

I would recommend you to go for the esteem.

Its a good pick for a 1st time buyer.

Sedan or hatch back..well that depends on your need/use.

As soon as i read your title, only one thing came to my mind.

OHC. Get a manual if FE is a concern. Now that ANHC is out, I don't know about Chennai prices but 2.5 should get you a '03 1.3 Dx easily, maybe even a '03 1.5 Exi. As regards maintenance costs are concerned, there are dozens of owners here who can give you a clear picture of what to expect.

A Baleno is a good option as well.

You can also go in for a Pre 2005 Accent.
and out of all mentioned previously the car is still in production.

Stick to a Japanese car. You will get a 01 OHC or a more newer Esteem in your price bracket. Both cars are reliable. All you need is to service them regularly. The Esteem especially is a work horse. Buy either of these two cars.

Thanks for all the quick replies. So is the Ikon a definite no? I came across a 2003 accent that has done around 35000 kms for 2.6L + 1 year engine and gearbox warranty. Is that a good deal? And also, is a 2002 octavia a good buy for around 4L?

I must be looking at all the wrong places because I cannot find a > 2000 OHC for 2.5L!!! Is it better to buy from a dealer or an individual? or should I stretch a bit and get a swift for around 3L?

Stay away from Octys... Maintainence is HIGH.

If you can Handle the cost of ownership then the ikon is a great car. What were you looking at 1.3 or 1.6.

Accent at 2.6 is steep. 1.60L sounds good.

Its a 1.3 flair, has done 36000 kms. Some one in the price check thread said shouldn't pay more that 1.8L for that. I was quoted a price of 2.2L. So is the baleno really that good? I remember it not doing too well when it first came out.

OHC! No any other option.

Search a good OHC, or maximum an Accent.

Thats it.

OHC will easily give you at least 5 more problem free happy years.

If you want Ford / Opel, be ready to pay at least 50% more for *** in future.

Best of luck for finding a good OHC.

Baleno>Esteem>OHC>Accent

You may get newer Accent for this price though.

Is Octavia's maintenance cost as bad as an that of an Ikon?
I really love that car and cant resist getting one for as low as 3.5L. There s a second owner 1.9 ambeinte that has done 80k kms. Would it be too foolish to go after it?
