Help : Viva crdi or Verna crdi

Fellow members :

I am on the lookout for a used diesel sedan and I have shortlisted Viva crdi and Verna crdi.

Both cars are around 2006 manufactured but the cost difference between them is around 2.5 L. Does Verna justify spending 2.5 L more?

Has Hyundai really improved upon the viva in terms of :

a. Better Suspension ? I believe Verna goes berserk at high speeds ( speeds which I will never touch ).

b. Improved engine performance/ NVH levels ?

c. Better seating comfort, especially for the rear seats ? Are the rear seats as low as in the accent?

Please let me have your views. Thanks.

I would anyday go for Verna CRDi.
Yes the Verna does get unstable at high speeds.
Seating comfort is better in the Verna(not as low as the accent).
Also, have heard that the three pot engine in the Accent CRDi needs an overhaul at around 60-70K kms.
IMO go for the Verna and you'l not regret the 2.5L price difference.

P.S. What is the mileage on both the cars?

Well i would take an expert mechanic & analyze about the condition of the car.

If the engine is good than its worth to save 2.5 Lacs definitely.

IMO Viva looks better than Verna.

1) How many kms both the cars you are considering have done ? What are you able to judge from the initial observations, I mean how the car has been used, etc. A lot of body dents will indicate rough usage.

2) a) As pointed out by someone, Verna is not stable at high speed which is not a good thing. But if you are not going to touch, high speeds dont worry about this.

b) Verna is better than Viva.

c) Verna is much better than Accent. The accent had very low rear seats and this was not comfortable for long distance driving.

Given the Verna's motor, I am sure you will start hitting high speeds.
But any given day, Verna would be my preference if I were in your place.

Also I suspect that Viva will have done more kms. as it dates back to 2006, so its better to go for Verna.

@jkdas : Agree with you, verna is the one to go for.

The verna for its engine. But the viva for its looks and its stability any day.
If i was to go in for either i would go in for the viva.

Thanks to you all for your replies.

I have put in an indent for a Verna ABS. It might take some time because finding a used Verna ABS is a bit difficult.

It is extremely difficult to find a used Verna CRDi. In fact I would be surprised if you can find a good condition used Viva CRDi also !

The Verna is a fantastic Diesel sedan and has amazing power and driveability is tops.

Not many people part with their Hyundai Diesels. Its with you for a long time.

But keep an eye out and I am sure you will find one soon. I feel a 2006 Model Verna ABS would be around 5.5 - 6 Lacs in Hyderabad. Am I right ?

Nitin, if there is no budget constraint, than Verna is the one to go for. Its absolutely worth the difference over Accent. And, i dont think finding a used Verna CRDI in good condition is difficult, although ABS is extremely rare to find in Used market. BUt, do insist on Service Records .

@ vkochar and scorpman :

Sorry not to have replied to you both earlier.

I'm a bit surprised that an ABS verna crdi is selling for around 7 L plus and not for 5.5-6L as you have guessed.

As for the service records, I will surely insist on them but I doubt if they'd be in order. Not many owners bother to keep their service records. There is also the element of the true ownership of the car. I have been warned that there are lots of stolen cars being sold with fake papers.

You can go for Verna. Though it 2+, you will get a better resale value in long run with additional horses under the hood.
Depreciation will be more for Viva and I want to remind you that the on road price is 50-60k cheaper than standard accent.

If the viva sparingly used and in good condition, then it’s your call.

It would be clear if you give the specification (year of Mfd, kms on odo etc) of both the vehicles, then it easier to decide.

Remember we are spending 6L for hatch swift vdi-78 bhp, doesn’t matter to spend the same for verna-110 bhp+sedan (if your budget permits)
No offence meant.

Both are good cars. Even the Viva CRDI. IMHO, I find the Verna more appealing

Verna only, don't even think of Viva CRDI.

Verna is a beast in comparison to Viva crdi but a beast that has a sound heart too. Viva CRDi is known to have issues after 80kms and hence verna anyday.

Kailash

verna CRDI all the way the power of extended warranty will hold you in good stead for sure.

And the extra horses will keep you ahead of the crowd
