Used OHCs. Which one to choose?

Guys
Saw 2 OHC.One 2000 model and other 2002 in bangalore. Details are given below:
2000-Black color,3rd owner,1.5exi,odo shows 68k done,leather seats,sports steering,headers,17" alloys,no insurance,-Badly maintained,lot of scratches,saw a bit of rust in trunk-Not sure about engine quality[Need to go and check with a mechanic]. Guys 2000 model had black color?? didnt see papers also.Asking rate is 2.5L negotible.

2002-Black color,3rd owner,specialedition 1.5exi,82k done,all stock,insurance renewed a month back,all service history available,neately maintained interior,engine condition is good though not excellent,no accidental history.Asking rate is 2.6L not negotiable.

Which one you guys think will be worth buying?
Also wats the difference in a special edition and a normal city 1.5?

The 2000 one has been ripped and that is why i am sure that the engine wont be so good, also 68k kms means that the odometer has been altered, maybe by all 3 owners.
Try to find better is my opinion as the price asked is quite high, well i really dont know as it is in banglore.

Even my heart goes with 2002. But just wanted your views. Also about the price for 2002 3rd owner and also the extras in special edition.

From someone who just picked up one, I suggest you extend your search and look for a 2003 one in the 260-290 range, odometers are usually tampered by dealers and its difficult to tell even by an experienced mechanic unless you can get hold of the service records.

Most important thing is to get the car thoroughly checked by a trusted mechanic and if possible have it checked by an official Honda dealer for estimates of work to be done. Pay very close attention to the engine, suspension, brake and clutch, ac system, steering and of course internal body and chassis for signs of accidents.

2002 sound the better of the two.

2003 for 2.75 might be a better bet.

there seems to be another thread for advice such as this.

Remember one thing:
You may spend 2L initially on 2000 car, but to keep it going for even 6 months, you might have to shell out 50-60K on various repairs and replacements. - Bringing the value of car to 2.5 L.

As you say - the car looks poorly maintained. If it is like that from outside while being up for sale - you can just imagine the internals.

This is no brainer as 2000 is badly maintained and it is 2002 which becomes obvious choice.

+1 to this, this is the only best way and the only way to be done.
By doing this you minimize the chances of getting cheated on. Also dont be in a hurry for a OHC, they are now old and quite rare, so wait till you find the right one.

hi, i bought a 2000 1.3 OHC Type 2 for 1.8 and am spending on my tyres + allows so essentially i bargained with the owner telling him i'd have to do these as the stock Michelins were not much good.

Plus the deck was the original Honda Tape Deck and the car had only minor servicing to be done. Else i was lucky to get the car which was barely used for about 45k odd kms IIRC and was maintained pretty well

Go for the 2002 model.

The 2000 one has 17" wheels, sporty steering and headers, which indicates that the car has been driven with performance in mind. Moreover, with such big wheels and low profile tyres, the suspension wont be as good as on the 2002 model.

The 2002 model has papers, full service history with renewed insurance.

And dont worry about the 82K km odo reading. My engine is at 68K kms now and feels as good as new. Just make sure you get the timing belt replaced if it hasn't been done (cost just 1700 bucks).

But if you come across a similar OHC with lesser miles, pick it up.

The 2002 OHC looks like a good deal to me. I will suggest you to drop the idea of the 2000 OHC.

Between these two, 2002 will be a much better choice, but I suggest it is also not good enough. You might be the fourth owner.

Better search for 1st owner OHC, you will definitely get a superbly maintained car (just like me)

Best of luck for further search.
