Lancer is superior to accent by all means except *** & spares cost.

So, yes, if you want to go for Lancer, be mentally prepared for higher maintenance.

One thing I've found out is that even after 10 years of use, a Lancer holds up well. Don't go for an Accent unless it's a very low mileage CRDi.
Came in Blue as well.

I would go with lancer. It's not like Accent not good enough, but IMO it would make more sense to drive 8 years old lancer than to 7 years old accent.
But before going for the particular Lancer, hire some good mechanic to evaluate the car. Because these things didn't appeal me,
1) Combination of year of make and Mileage
2) Rust
3) Color (might be changed to hide some rust or accential scras)
4) and indeed buying it from the dealer.

Hope I'm not too sceptic, but experts approval is must before buying this car.

This is serioulsy OT, but couldn't help mentioning that:
I've seen a few sellers put in a line in their advertisement.
"Doctor driven"
Why? Doctors can also rip a car like everyone else.
Next: "Lady Driven"
So what if it lady driven? Ironically I'll demand a price cut of atleast 20K if
I see this line in any ad.

Hey, i read your thread title - but let me add to your confusion - why would'nt you consider the Baleno? You would get a '01~'02 models fully loaded Vxi variant within your budget!

Maintenance is cheap, you get much better power and mileage, draw backs are its drab looks and phased out model!

But if you ask me, its the real hot wheels!

There are tons of Lancers for sale out there which come for similar prices - especially fully loaded cars. We bought a 2nd hand Lancer GLX-D 5 years back which is still in darn good condition and is a treat to drive. For me, the Lancer wins hands down against an Accent - the interior space itself is a good reason to choose one.

Carwale has a ton of Lancers listed in their database as well. Why don't you try looking around more? The trick with 2nd hand buys is not to decide at first sight or get your heart attached to a car very soon. Don't worry and just walk away from both the buy and look around for a bit more.

Cheers!

Go for the Lancer but after you have done a due diligence with a mechanic checking it out. Else there are always other single owner lancers in the market, bit of elbow/ wrist grease necessary in using the mouse to surf the net for other options.

Happy hunting

go for an accent if you want low maintenance costs and go for a lancer if you want performance.buy only single owner driven cars with low odometer readings and service history and manuals

+1 from me. I request you to test drive both the vehicles back to back so that you can also get real time experience.

cheers,

If its genuine 53,000, then I think it has done just 1/5th of its life.. My cousin has a 1999 Lancer and its done 1.25 kms. It has been an awesome car and we have never had any problem with the car.. Just see it this way.. the guy who bought it paid around 9-10 lacs for the car and used 1/5th of it. You are going to pay 2.5 and use the remaining 4/5, How about that.

Although the parts of lancer are much expensive than that of accent... but the duration they last for is also more than that of Accent...

In between try to negotiate and bring down the price to around 2lacs. A 2001 mint condition lancer in Delhi will be around 1.8lacs.. slxi would be around 2lacs...

Accent Vs Lancer

It has to be the Lancer between the two. Just a little comparison from what i have experienced.

LOOKS: Lancer wins hands down with its sleek looks and feels a size bigger than it actually is.

ENGINE: Accent scores with better pulling power, but Lancer equally good with much more refinement. The Accent engine feels sporty but is raucous in most of its revband.

Ride & Handling: Lancer all th way, it is a segment above on this one.

Interiors & Comfort: Lancer feels dated and materials feels cheap compared to Accent, but has more space, with much more comfortable seats.

Fuel Economy : Accent gives 8-9 city and 11-13 highway, whereas Lancer goes 9-11 city and 13-16 highway.

Spares & Maintenance: Cheap spares, Large service network, Very reliable and proven mechanicals & electricals makes Accent the winner on this one.

Resale: Hyundai has a slight edge here, Lancer known for poor resale.

Verdict: LANCER

But, the two cars you have shortlisted, i would suggest to avoid the Lancer, and look for a better option. Being a dealer car, 90% chances are that the odo has been tempered with and any minor or major defects might be swept under the carpet for you to explore later. Dealer cars do look shiny and well looked after, but they prove to be very expensive in the long run. Look out for a private party car, you could use carwale.com, its really helpful.

To me it sounds quite unrealistic that 7 to 8 years old cars run only 50K kms. Both with second owners.
On the other hand, a Lancer still demands a second look compared to an accent. All the best...

May sound biased but here are my two cents.

Looks: Lancer wins hands down against the Accent. Never liked the looks of the Accent. Lancer, by far the most handsome car ever in India (may not be true in current context)

Engine: I can vouch for the engine life. I run a 2001 Lancer (I'm the third owner), started at 61k and now 94k kms done and the engine is still in great shape. The refinement is top-notch even till date.

Performance: Reasonable enough, will not set the roads on fire! But a very competent car both in the city and on the highway.

Handling: I'd like to think it is one of the best handlers around with almost decade old technology to back, that is quite an achievement! If you get a chance, drive one on a twisty road (read ghats) and you'll know what I'm talking about . Always brings a smile on my face.

Mileage: 10-12 in the city and 14-15 on the highway.

A.S.S: Is reasonably good in Pune, atleast. Spares are comparatively costly, but the car components are pretty reliable so you would not have to spend far too much on them anyway. Ensure a healthy condition car and you are good to go. Having said that, a Hyundai will have a far better A.S.S compared to the archaic HM!

Get the Lancer, shod it with some nice rubber and you have a fantastic machine ready. And oh! not to mention the mod-friendly nature of the Lancer.

Never got a chance to drive the Accent, so can't say much about it.

Good luck with your decision.
