Well if you're looking for a fuel efficient car then the Ikon 1.6 would be better but, as a complete car, the Optra has it all.

It handles well, rides well and is quicker than the Ikon 1.6 in the accelerations too. Bigger engine means more torque which helps a lot in overtaking without having to downshift. It's got more space and the interiors are classy.

The optra isn't just VFM, it's a good car. And i'm sure your dad will like it.

Well, you can't have it all. The Optra is surely not as FE as the NHC or the Corolla (which comes with variable valve timing) but, i don't think it's that bad either.

Corolla :
City - 9.6
Highway - 16.5

Optra :
City - 7.4
highway - 14.5

I think you should stick with the Optra. Consider the NHC only if FE is very very important bcoz that car lacks raw power and doesn't handle that well.

The Corolla is only good at straight line acceleration, Get it in the twisties and the Optra can pretty much keep up. I test drove these 2 cars on the same day and on the same roads and there were instances where the Corolla would give way at 120kmph and the Optra would hold it's line even at 130kmph (on the same turn).

I think the Optra was tweaked by Lotus (correct me if i'm wrong). Anyway, the point is that it handles better.

There's no doubt that it is the one to have, if you're looking for a balanced car.

In case budget is not an issue......there is no competition here !
Optra over Ikon anyday of the week !!

As for Corolla v NHC v Optra it boils down to personal choice since all have pros n cons and all are nice cars in their own ways but as Shan2nu pointed out the Optra still is prolly the best of the lot in many different aspects.

Rudra sir i think its like if you have another car from the same dealer you will get a discount. We got a discount of 5% when we got the optra because we had a qualis which was bought from the same dealer.

Aren't they giving a 20-30% cash discount? Unless Optra is selling really well...which I doubt.
I got a cash discount of 35k (on 1.8 LT) last year.

This was above whatever offers were there at that time. We got free insurance or something i guess. Not too sure as i was in blore when they got it. But this discount is additional. It was a loyalty discount by the dealer. That was how it was in the quote we got.
