E270 CDI will be easy. However, as Jaggu posted, you must find a competent independent garage prior to buying a used Benz.

But he seems to be warming up to the idea because he might be able to own a Merc for cheap.
We have to understand that, if you get an E Class for 20 lakhs, that's still a 50 lakh car. The maintenance will be proportional to its original price. On the other hand, you are getting a benz for 1/2 the money, what's a lakh every year to keep it? Go for it, but ONLY with the support of an independent Euro-specialist garage.

With Vinayak in town, a Skoda might be a fine choice

So, the battle has come down to comfort vs sporty.

Corolla Altis vs Cedia. Hope to get a test drive of both these cars this week. I will drive, let dad sit in the back and judge the comfort. My heart is set on a Cedia. Hope the finance minister agrees!

Two things bug the life out of me regarding the Cedia.

1). Crappy stickers on the new one. They look horrendous! I mean seriously bad! Hope the stickers can be taken off without any damage or marks being left on the paint.

2). The headlights. The old smoked headlamps looked way better. The new ones look too ordinary. I dont like it one bit, but is something I can live with. Not the stickers.

Do you guys know anything regarding this?

If we buy the Toyota, it will have to be from Ravindu Toyota. Need to call them and arrange a test drive. Will ask both companies to get the cars to our Kanakapura Road office. Hope to down to NICE road and properly test the cars.

The Altis has way more features than the Cedia. Electrical seats, HIDs, automatic levelling for headlamps, auto dimming mirrors, automatic headlights, etc...

Cedia has my heart.

Cedia wins.

What wins my dad's wallet? Coming soon.....

The electric seats version GL of the Altis costs 14.8L whereas the lower variant is a better comparison to the Cedia.

The Cedia stickers can be taken off easily.

The old smoked headlamps were more expensive than the chrome ones, hence the new one has the smoked ones.

I think they got many complaints saying headlamp was too costly to replace so now they give the cheaper one.

If we go for the Altis, it will be the top end manual transmission version.

Didnt understand what you said regarding the headlights.

I thought both cost the same - 5197 all inc. I agree the clear ones look crappy compared to the smoked ones.

hmmm, I remember reading somewhere long ago, that both were priced differently.

I guess I maybe wrong, need to check and confirm.

Nikihil, just get the Yellow cedia and put the Yoko Advan Neovas on them. Simple.

^^They were at the outset. The smoked ones costed 2k more than the clear ones. However after the spare part price cut, both cost the same AFAIK. I had the left one replaced in my car and that is what I got charged.

Also ask them to not stick the ghastly stickers in the first place. Why bother removing them :P.

I'd suggest the following ( If not already finalised that is ! )

Corrolla Altis - Excellent car overall.
Honda Accord V6 - Not exciting to drive ??? * Confused * !

Go for Corolla Altis Sports variant Nikhil, I have doubts about the ride quality of Cedia & unlikely that your dad will choose it.

Altis Sports doesnt have HID or electrically adjustable seats.

vkochar --- Accord V6 is super fast in a straight line, but handling is so-so is what I've heard. Not driven it myself.

Anyway, test drive of Cedia today at 3:00 pm. Let's see how it goes.

Corolla Altis Sports is useless. Just a sticker job. It also lacks HIDs, Electrically adjustable seats and a few other things.

Everybody poured suggestions here with whatever choices available. Reason meaning of "Exciting". All cars are exciting to some other's tastes. So you can see here suggestion pouring from Sonata, Corolla, Merc, BMW and list goes on.

Would you please explain what is your definition of "Exciting"? Then it would be helpful to narrow down suggestion.

Take a spin the Civic if you are looking at driving pleasure. The facelift, with its stiffer rear end, is a HECK of a drive. Beautiful balance, perfect steering and slick gearshift. The engine is revvhappy, though it doesn't have the urgency / maniac nature of the OHC Vtec.
