buying in Mulund or Pune?

My Friend lives 3 weeks in Mumbai- Mulund and 1 weeks in Pune every month.
He do have property at both places. What will be pros and cons if he decides to buy car in Mulund or Pune.
Any views?

If he's got a legit property in Pune, and visits the city atleast once a month, I'd say Pune! Simple reason : Lower onroad prices

I agree with GTO. On road prices - wherever less - makes sense buying it there.

I have a property in Agra and Gurgaon both. I have been buying my cars from Gurgaon because the difference is far too much ! I saved 40k on road tax alone on my Verna last year !!

Pune !! I don't see any cons - GTO has already pointed out the most important pro !!

Even better if his property is in PCMC (Pune Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) area and not in PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) area.

Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad (MH-12 & MH-14 respectively) have 1% octroi (for cars not made in their respective octroi collection areas).

Whereas Mulund MH-03 has 4% octroi.

Choice is yours.

Thank you all for advice. Yes, he has legit property in Pune. He does have all other papers like bank account with local address, electric bill, property tax on Pune address, same for Mumbai address too. He is looking for Indica Vista or some Maruti car below 4 lac.

Buy a car in Pune only, as there will be less taxes there.
In Pune district, there is only 1% octroi, where as in Mumbai district, there is something 3-4% octroi & most important thing is that if you are buying Tata or Fiat vehicle, then go buying a car in Pune district only as there will be a less prices for these vehicles than Mumbai; due to which on-road price will be also less than around 8K-10K as per my knowledge.

+1 to Cyclops

Cars registered in coastal locations tend to have lower resale... also, after the last floods in Mumbai resale of cars registered before the flood took an additional beating in resale.. finally, if you will be coming to pune regularly, better to have a MH12 or 14 instead of anything else, every now and then the cops have a routine to stop non Pune cars and check for papers, whats in the boot, who is the driver, etc... apparently a security search without a smart plan !

So, Pune regn would be my choice
