Wrong, The maintanace of a lancer is lower than that of a baleno, have you seen the price of SGP parts, most of them are not available now, there is a fairly long wait period for some parts, read a fellow BHPians thread Aks_chauhan, his car is not ready even after 3 months.

Lancers are 1.5, he is looking for 1.6s so clearly out of question.

BTW best of luck with your search, please do update us of the out come, get a compression test done atleast.

I drove the Lancer , OHC and the Baleno that I was looking for

1. Lancer - I wasn't impressed , 2004 , Mumbai reg , 50k on the odo , bits and pieces falling off , no power in the 2-3k rpm band.

2. OHC - Car with the spirit , but my knees touching steering in every possible seat position. Hence dropped

3. Baleno -

suspension was good , pune reg ,factory fitted stereo (plays mp3 cd) , wiring for stereo done properly ,factory fitted alloys ,good year tubeless tyres will last 15k kms - r14 ,no power loss issues , clutch plates look good , no lag in accel after gear shifts ,a/c is damn good and comes with climate control.

The power windows work without a noise , no rattling anywhere . Everything in good shape. Engine is great condition , no noise rattles in under the hood. Motors for OVRM's also work fine. Leather seats , tints already done.

Verdict - Bought the Baleno and its white !

A few pics taken from e72. Will do photography this weekend with the 400D

Thanks Johnny.

There are a couple of issues that need to be fixed -

1.Antenna is broken
2.Central locking remote batteries have run out or maybe the system doesnt work.
3.Left ORVM motor moves up and down only and not sideways
4.Fused bulb for fuel guage meter.
5.Rear left indicator not working.

Any place in Pune where I can get this sorted out or should I be headed to MASS?

Congrats buddy. So finally you got the best car on your list. The car looks like a well maintained one. What was the final price and how much does the odo show? Got any plan for mods?

@Delta and Anand : Thanks .

I got it for 2.5 , 60500 on the odo. The car is brilliant , drove it around city and to Lavasa and did some 200 kms today.

Mods ? yes , might start with K&N and free flow exhaust , and some visuals. Mods will continue to happen both in looks and performance. Any good threads on that on tbhp?

Hey Niks, congratulations on purchase. Baleno is great car to drive but expensive to maintain.

Welcome bro.
These are minor issues, you will be able to fix them without much trouble.

Strange! Its a fantastic car with the best ergonomics ever made in the history of Indian cars in that segment. The lack of a 'little' power is compensated by the ultimate handling of the vehicle.

True! Same happened with me when I test dove a OHC 1.5EXi.

Thanks. Maybe the lancers I saw weren't top notch models or maybe the baleno outshone the lancers in terms of condition of the car. Here are a few pics I took today.

Very nice! Congrats on your purchase. I've always thought that Baleno was one of the most underrated cars in its class. Maruti really wasn't able to market and sell it properly.

Since you have just bought the car, I'd advise you to take to to MASS and get the minor issues fixed and also ask them to have a look over at the overall vehicle to ensure you don't get any surprises if and when you driving down some deserted highway. Of course since some MASS are also notorious for suggesting unnecessary fixes, do take a second opinion as well if anything seems fishy.

Congrats- I still own the Baleno we purchased in 2005. 66500 kms later..the engine still revvs up like a dream.
My suggestion would be to try mobil 1 synthetic oil in the next oil change..though a touch expensive..it makes the engine sing really well!
I also bought the Innova last year..but still prefer the Baleno in terms of pure driving pleasure.
The car is pretty reliable and built to last. You have made a smart choice.
