Optra 1.8 vs 1.6

Hey, my dad was telling me to go in for Optra 1.6 VGIS, since he already has one and it's a damn nice car.

But since I'm a petrolhead, I'd rather go in for the 1.8, if it isn't a lot more expensive. Is there a big difference in performance between the 1.6 and 1.8 lt engines?

The VGIS comes for Rs. 7.83 lakhs OTR in Mumbai. What's the best deal I can get for the 1.8 - insurance, registration, discounts etc?

I'd really appreciate some help from you guys here.

Theres 75K off on both.
Get the 1.6 Royale. The engine is more refined and the trade off in performance isn't much.

Boom Shiva, wud recommend u to buy the 1.6 and do some mods on it with the extra cash, u will have a better performing car than the 1.8!

the 1.8 Holden motor is really good but i dont anything wrong the 1.6mill either ...the difference is just 113 horses ..and monetary difference is around 2 lakhs ...
its better that you go for the 1.6 Optra and modd the nuts bolts out of if for less than half the price ...

On a car like an Optra, i don't think performance really matters. It's a comfortable car, deigned to take you from one point to another, in luxury.

Performance :

0-100
1.6 - 13.1
1.8 - 11.1

1/4 Mile
1.6 - 18.9
1.8 - 18

Top Speed
1.6 - 177
1.8 - 191

Hey Shan2nu, I know what you're saying about the Optra not being a "performance" car, but I figured if the difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 isn't too much, then i'll go for the latter.

Turbo Lover, 2 lakhs seems way too steep. I thought it would be more like 40-50 k difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 base models. I guess i'll go for the VGIS.
