Re: The Football Thread

One set of blues knocked off now bring the next set of blues, the sky blues. Win would silence the noisy neighbours for a year.

Re: The Football Thread

good performance by United. Truly deserved winners.

Torres was horrible yesterday. If chesea started with Drogba, he atleast would've given United a run for their money.

They have payed 50 million for him, so they will be under pressure to play him!
funny fact - We could get 7 chicharitos for that money

Actually he wasnt horrible. Its just that he didnt have a proper supply as nobody really passed to him in proper areas. It would be very much the same for chica as well if the likes of giggs and rooney were not htere to play him in!

If only fernando played for a team like us, he would be a monster. He needs a rooney playing alongside him who can spot his intelligent runs and provide the crosses and passes to score. He is not a Drogba kind of a player unfortunately thats why on the whole is looking bad compared to him considering Drogba actually scored.

He made the wrong move, going to chelsea. I wish he had come to United. Him and rooney would have been unbeatable.

Cant fully agree there! You could see him clearly struggle to even make the simplest of passes. and his ball control was also horrible.
Everyone at chelsea is just totally confused as to what to do with him, how to use him, after having paid so much for getting him

Actually things have to be looked into proper perspective. In football there are teams and there are players. Now there are some teams (most top teams) that play with a particular philosophy and that philosophy is their strength/weakness depending on the case. Same is true for footballers!

Chelsea as a team plays thru the middle! What that means is, they have a hell of a midfield and they like to bully others using that. 4 strong midfielders who all can play box-to-box and all can score as well. usually (pre-Torres era) they would have sitting holding midfielder just in front of defense (used to be mekelele/ nowdays mikel) and upfront a battering ram of a striker like Drogba. Now Drogba is a very special footballer. He, like Rooney, can create chances for himself. Hence this kind of system worked as midfield's primary wasnt to keep supplying drogba but to keep pressing and shooting and thats why we had all those Lampards years of 20+ goals a season!

Now Torres is totally different kind of a character. He makes runs! So to be effective he needs the ball in those areas where he makes runs! usually its in between the channels or behind the defenders. If you had someone spraying those passes or forward balls, then this kind of footballer would be amazing! Torres has the pace and the guile to beat even the best of defenders. He suits perfectly in a system that primarily plays on the counter (and that is us!) thats why I said, he could have been amazing in our team.

Anyway, a great night yesterday for us! It will be Schalke in the semis, we should get to the final without much problems! ALso a great opportunity to scout and sound Nueur to become VDS replacement next season.

It is very easy to just watch the striker and criticize him for not scoring. You guys remember the free goal scoring machine in Italy named Andrey Schevchenko? What happened to him in Chelsea? And what happened to Ballack in the midfield? Ballack was able to stick through the midfield because even if he was not in the best of forms, the other midfielders were able to fill the void. A striker cannot escape from this and this is what happened to Shevchenko and am afraid this is what is also happening to Torres. He is a great player and hope he finds a great team next season...US

Ah Sheva! He was just too old

Torres would never play for us! Actually theres more of a chance of me playing in the red of Manchester United than Torres!!! He would never play for us and for Real Madrid. Ironically, these are the two best teams on earth for his type of striker!!!

I think he'll just do fine at Chelsea. Next season they'll let go of several of their older players and build their team around Torres. Most likely Kaka will arrive to provide that midfield service. They'll also at least get one winger so Torres should get more scoring chances. Drogba will definitely leave chelsea next season. After all he is 33 now. No point in lingering with him. SAF also dispensed with RVN even when he was still very very good. I think Chelsea management has realised future is with younger players. They've already acquired 3 very good players in torres, luiz and ramires. Lets see what SAF does this summer. We will also need to replace the likes of EVDS, giggs, scholes and neville.

This is so true, Torres well summarized, hopefully he wont suffer Shevchenko's fate. Tonight we take on Newcastle, hopefully securing a 9 point lead to our next contenders. Arsenal, that team never fails to amuse me!

Man United fail to take all three points at Newcastle . However with Arsenal taking on Tottenham away tonight it remain to be seen if we (Yeah I am an Arsenal supporter) can even begin to try and take advantage of that. From past experiences... most likely not :(

All the Man Utd Players were looking so tired yesterday, they badly need a rest, but we have got big matches coming thick and fast!
I hope spurs thrash arsenal today, and take out their champions league disappointment!

Bro, a 7 point lead is comfortable enough and besides Arsenal haven't won silverware since 2005, don't think they are going to get lucky this time around either and Tottenham will be gunning for those 3 points since they are out of the Champions League, they would want to come fourth at least. You'll have a task at hand. I'm rooting for Tottenham tonight.

Yeah, Chicharito seemed to have lost his ball control skills altogether and Giggsy! That was a sitter, anyways hoping we get some respite against Everton and Schalke.

Re: The Football Thread

hmm.. Its a good match. draw -a fair result too.
could've avoided Van Der Vaart's pen but should not complain as Arsenal should've kill game before.

Finally, Arsenal's consistency in throwing game away from 2 goals cushion costed them title (happened 3 or 4 times this season). Now they slipped to 3rd.

Chelsea now 2nd in points table coz of Goal difference. Wont be surprised if they win the title from here (but again its ManU's title to lose from here)
