The Longest Darkest Lunar Eclipse of this century - 16th June, 2011

I looked around, but didn't find any and did not see even a single picture of the above. So, I started. Posting a few pictures of the Lunar Eclipse. Picture quality is not so good because of dust/foggy like conditions interspersed with scatterred cloud formation.

Very good pictures. Any explanation for the moon turning red ? and from which did you snap these pictures?

Thanks. The moon didn't turn red. It is more kind of copperish - orangish. This is the colour the moon takes during a total Lunar Eclipse.

The details of the equipment used is given with the exif of each picture..

Thank you. If you read carefully the exif, you shall see the equipment description there - (D300 with 80~200mm f/2.8). Alphabet preceding a number denotes it is a Nikon.

Guru ji. Looks like the resolution was achieved successfully.

Excellent shots. Its always tricky to click the moon. Liked the copper red moon.
I clicked a few till midnight.

GD Sir, Beautifull pics. I am glad that you could manage some, rather very nice photographs, even with the cloud and the haze.

A series from my side (click on the picture to make it bigger)

Good Grab. In Bangalore it was too cloudy and were not able to look at the Moon, but however had a Super opportunity to watch the complete Lunar Eclipse via Google Doodle. They had a live Telecast of the same.

Re: The Longest Darkest Lunar Eclipse of this century - 16th June, 2011

Thanks KP, but I'm not satisfied with the output. The elements conspired.. I was surprised to find that kind of dust/haze even at that height.

Thanks Deky. It was tough taking pictures in those conditions. Your collage looks great

Thanks rk. That's an amazing collage you've made. On aspect intrigues me - you & I, both stay in Gurgaon, share the same skyline & conditions, but you get crisp & clear pics, while I encounter dust/haze on the 16th floor of my high rise?

Thanks GreenDay...
Long exposures(longer than 6-7 seconds will come out blurred with a long lens. This is due to earths rotation
however, your shorter exposures(3-4 seconds) are blurred due camera shake.
I think you put your camera on tripod and clicked?
Did you use a wired release?
Did you lock the mirror up? Mirror slap can cause significant vibration problems for shots upto 2-3 seconds.

Re: The Longest Darkest Lunar Eclipse of this century - 16th June, 2011

The cam was on tripod. Wind speed 26 kmph. The shake could be due to that.

I did not use the cable release. Put it on timer. The mirror wasn't locked. Could be one of the reasons..
