Team-BHP - The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Got my hands on Jimi Hendrix's 2010 album (Valley's Of Neptune) that consists of 12 previously unreleased recordings. What a fantastic album! His song writing abilities are almost unmatched IMO. Here are a few 'must-listen' tracks:

Somehow don't like the "Final" in the album name. Ah well, but it surely is just a marketing ploy. But sounds like a nice concept album.

Aren't all these previously released? I certainly have them on the Best of Hendrix CD
Unless these are some live/demo/alternate versions.

The only tracks I'd heard before were Foxy Lady, All Along The Watch Tower, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child and a few others. So I'm not too sure about that. I'm guessing the album has a few older tracks as well! :)

EDIT: I found this gem of a track by Buckethead called 'Siege Engine'. It completely blows you away! Sounds a bit thrashy but it's progressive rock at its best! Brilliant intro, fantastic solo and a riff that will haunt you for a few days!

In the last G3 (Tokyo), the jam session had Satch/Vai/Petrucci playing Foxy Lady. That was really nice.

The culmination was Smoke on the water!

I was searching for it at Forum. Some how did not find it at that time and then did not look for it. Instead saw it in You tube.
Though I have the audio CD of the show. The only G3 DVD which I have is the one held on '96 with Satriani/Vai/Eric Johnson.
Vai is too good with "For the love of God"

The other live shows which I cherish and watch again and again:

Maiden: All of them Death on the Road, Rock in Rio, Live after Death (No Adjectives left for Maiden)
Floyd: The recently re-released Pulse DVD, (Classic)
Gilmour: Remember That Night (Beautiful)
Dream Theater: Live at Budokan (Flawless performance)
Blind Guardian: Imaginations through the Looking Glass (Brilliant)

The audio of Rush in Rio DVD is pretty bad. Geddy is inaudible and his voices looses out in the crowd.

That answers it alright! And where did you get the G3 DVD from? I want it so bad! Satriani/Vai/Malmsteen are brilliant together. I've got snippets of Petrucci and Johnson as well! Good stuff! :)

If you cherish live shows more than actual studio-recordings, then you should try out the most classic one of them all - No Quarter : Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. It's worth checking out! :)

Will definitely try to get it. In fact my collection of Hendrix and LedZep is not that full. (I have all the Led Zep Audios I-to-IV, Grafitti and Song Remains the same, but not live shows).

By the way add another live show to the previous colleciton:

This has QR playing Mindcrime in full! Tate's voice is superb and so is Chris D Garmo's soaring guitars. (Although he is no more with the band now)

I have been trying to get this DVD - was only able to get a rip off the net but this performance deserves a much better version.

This is a DVD release with 5.1 for the difference. Plus there is a section called Botlegging the Bootleggers!

Where they feature lots songs that they played, but which did not feature in the audio release.
On of the examples : "On the turning Away" Did you ever hear that in Pulse? !

@suhaas the G3 in Tokyo I have has Petrucci on it and not Malmsteen. Its alright I suppose and I do like Petrucci's Glasgow Kiss on it. Vai is brilliant on his "For the love of God" as well. I think I got it in PlanetM.

I have some good "metal" DVDs at home- like ampere I absolutely love the Rock in Rio Maiden DVD - heck all their DVDs are good, Flight 666 included. Just a bit too much of that quick editing in it but the sound+performances are always top notch.
My other all-time favourite concert dvd is Megadeth's That One Night - the crowd is crazy, the set-list is amazing and Dave is in top form. Awesome concert.

First time when I saw RIR I was blown away. Did not realize that the Nicko was nearing 50! What passion with which they played!

I have the Opeth and IE albums, but no DVD. Opeth Damnation is my favourite.
