To tsk: [quote=tsk1979]Nobody mentioned the Prince of Metal, Johnny James Dio, quote].

You DO mean Ronnie James Dio right? ...

YE..malmsteen's art of shredding is to die for! Far beyond the sun, incarus and fire and ice and motherless child are by far some of his best pieces! I didn't know aerosmith's dream on tribute was by him! well...now I do!!! Other bands I forgot to mention in my list is slayer, hendrix(!!!!), seplutura, blind guardian.....

How come no one has mentioned Sepultura? The metal band from Brazil. Other than Sep, the usuals are in my list too...Pantera, Slayer, Metallica (only pre Black albums), Megadeth (only pre Countdown to Extinction albums)
Little bit of prog metal like Dreamtheater, prog rock like Jethro etc...

And where does Jimi Hendrix figure? rock?metal? or wot?

amitoj, yeah Sepultura had some good ones...I think Dead Embryonic Cells was the album eh?

ghostrider, yeah I was thinking the same ....Ronnie
Holy Diver is a great great song, the man's voice is amazing.

And of course JP is 100% British as highpriest said...
Nice to see people from the "guitar" buying thread pop in here :-)

No one can just be simply a metal fan coz if you give classic rock/hard rock a miss then you are missing on the basic influences of the metal genre itself.

Hendrix would probably be in the Blues influenced rock?

Up the Irons !!!

hmmm,

This thread's right down my alley.....gud to see hordes of replies within 10 hours of opening this thread.
As you "should" have figured out, here lies a religious follower of Maiden... band list (in no particular order):

Iron maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Sepultura, Blind Guardian, Testament (rocks!!), Savatage, Dream Theater, Ozzy, Sabbath, Judas priest, Satriani, Vai.....etc. The etc would include bands which would not qualify for this thread, and some of these which find mention above might also not (depends on your definition of "heavy")

Cudnt help commenting on some earlier threads by TSK: (not being personal in any manner here)
Judas is British pal......and dont call Blind Guardian US based...the band has a heavy german origin, and if you follow what they play (kudos to your choice in "bright eyes" and "to france")...the themes smell heavily of an european bloodline.

And well, as for referring to Maiden as hard rock, I would say "beg to differ" would be an understatement if used in this context.
The band has been the fathers of metal (pardon the strong bias here), in line with the grandfathers (by the name of Sabbath).

I would not refer to any particular composition by Maiden; doing so would be rendering a grave injustice to the other superb musical masterpieces they have spewed out.

This arguement on Maiden is open for discussion, anytime....please feel free to express your defense on the same :-)

One smiley (as allowed by the mods) isnt enuff to express my delight at finding true metalheads....we are a dying breed.
Let us help each other in saving ourselves.....SPREAD THE DISEASE

The Clairvoyant.

NOTE: Mods, The thread is purely Metal as you can see, and this is something innate in the theme of this forum (carzzzz)...so please keep the thread going.

thats very true, abhay. But since this thread was about metalheads, i chose to leave out other bands i like, for example, Black Sabbath (of course!), Ozzy, Iron Maiden, BB King (dont laff) etc. etc.

And oh lord of heavy metal, please forgive me for not mentioning the name of Charles Schuldiner (and also spare me for misspelling his name), the founder of Death.

Cheers
Amitoj
PS: I also occasionally indulge in Jazzy B

You are absolutly right. It is called riding with the king. The whole album is neat! I have the album too, and the vid of riding with the king. Another song I would recommend people to hear is 'johnny b good' by chuck berry and john lenon (originally by our king of rock n roll - Elvis the pelvis ).

Sepultura is mentioned in the list by many people including me.

But how come no ones mentioned the doors, the ramones, rolling stones, reo speedwagon, rod stewart, uriah heep and their likes huh? . Ofcourse they aint metal, but considering the fact that other genres of music are mentioned here, I think the above bands and musicians should also be given some credit for influencing the music world!

Godspeed.

Alok.
