Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

The bards are back. The new album is out ("Beyond the Red Mirror"). The reviews suggest a partial throwback to the vintage style mixed with progressive forward thinking.

But still to me its still Nightfall in Middle Earth and Somewhere Far Beyond.

But the new album does have flashes of vintage Guardian.

Did not even realise that Iced Earth had a release in 2014.

New BG kicks major ass! Whole album is ridiculously grand. Definitely their best effort since Nightfall. And yes, Iced Earth came out with a new record last year. Barlow is not there anymore, but they have found a great replacement in Stu Block. They also played in Bangalore back in July '13. Mad show!

Spent quite some time with this new album. My take:

As I said earlier, it surely has more than flash of old. They have made an effort to get out of harsh sound of the last 5-10 years. The sound feels melodic. Also I find the the overall sound a bit more mellow than what it was during Nightfall days. Nevertheless I would take this any day compared to "A Night at the Opera". Seems like a logical progression from "At the Edge of Time".

Hansi deserves a special mention: His voice remains as intact as ever! The last two-three months have been good! Priest, Floyd and now this!

You said it. The voice of Sauron lives! And yes, this year is shaping up to be phenomenal. Few more albums (if you haven't checked them out yet) that are worth checking out from this year: Venom - From The Very Depths, Hate - Crusade:Zero, Napalm Death - Apex Predator - Easy Meat, Sylosis - Dormant Heart, Angra - Secret Garden and U.D.O - Decadent.

Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

By the way, I have not any seen good live show album for a long time. The last good one I saw was the documentary by Rush called "Beyond the lighted Stage". The last good live show album I had seen was Iron Maiden: Death on the Road.

Cant believe Maiden's new album is ready to go! They have been holding on for Bruce to recover from his chemotherapy sessions.

Chris Squire the founding member of Yes (the only guy to feature in all Yes studio albums) no more. RIP.

And on a happy note, new Maiden album "Book of Souls" to be out in September first week. Cant wait to get that one!

Ah that voice! He is really in killer form in spite of what he went through last year. The riffs are no different. Cant say anything before album releases. But still its a Maiden!

Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Ok have you guys heard Ghost's new album yet? Meliora it's called. Gave it a go today. Not bad at all, much more atmospheric and more keys on this album. The vocalist's limitations though.

Genexus by Fear factory - back to the old sound, Obsolete-ish. Terrific album. Mike Heller is an absolute beast.

Drudkh is out as well with another majestic release. A Furrow cut Short. Don't miss this one !! Lastly, haven't heard it yet but there's Arcturian by Arcturus. Will listen soon. \m/
