Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

^^Probably because I play guitar myself, have always been partial to Gilmour from the days when Pink Feud was at its peak! In fact I gave the Waters show in 2002 a miss though I could have attended with a little bit of effort. Sadly Dave never thought of visiting India, though a lot other of the oldies did- Knopfler, Ian Anderson, Sting, Purple- and I caught all of them in action in Bangalore but alas Dave never made it!

Now I think he's too old and probably the window has closed.

True. This eternal battle between Roger and Dave was very big. There was always this argument that Dave's guitar had no soul because there were no Roger lyrics.

For me it never mattered. The music was so amazing, I never missed the lyrics. The best was, to imagine the lyrics of the song "Sorrow" with story of Lord of the Rings in the background. It felt so true!

Check it out!

Here are the lyrics. Run the tolkien story in the mind and see how nicely the lyric fits. Though I am sure they were not meant for it!

The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land
Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky:
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers,
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking
He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise
In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise
He's chained forever to a world that's departed
It's not enough, it's not enough
His blood has frozen & curdled with fright
His knees have trembled & given way in the night
His hand has weakened at the moment of truth
His step has faltered
One world, one soul
Time pass, the river rolls
It's not enough it's not enough
His hand has faltered

The single reminded me too much of Newsted's Soldierhead. Good song nonetheless and definitely looking forward to getting the full album when released.

Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

So the mighty metal militia is out with their new album and i must say it was a blast but just does not feel metallica enough for me still. For me the biggest disappointment would be the solos. Solos are supposed to melt your faces off but this is just struggling.

But hey compared to st anger and magnetic this is an improvement and considering their age hell yeah \m/

In other news, i can't stop listening to Kryptos' new album, burn up the night. Simple and straight forward the way metal is to be!

'Dogs' from the 'Animals' album is one such example. Whilst desperately trying to out-do each other, Gilmour and Waters inadvertently created a masterpiece, and the entire album is testament to that.

You don't think metallica is edgy enough?
Take a listen to this.

I do not like Metallica, not because they're not edgy but their songs simply do not do it for me. I do believe though that one good thing came out of Metallica.. yes you know it > Dave Mustaine. Megadeth will remain the only metal group I've ever liked (I do not like metal otherwise), mainly due to their lyrics.. its very intelligently written and dripping with sarcasm/rebellion most often.

The song "Symphony of Destruction" till today remains an indirect whistle-blower to politics and governance in America, its equally applicable worldwide.. its my all-time favourite song for this very reason :

This music video is a work of art, gives me the chills everytime I see it. Mustaine's vocals is to me the best of anything in metal. I like their rebellious, realistic stance in most of their songs.

Here's another one :

Neither too hard, nor too "soft".. just right. BTW I like the story of how Dave Mustaine punched Hetfield, floored him and walked out like a boss when he was dissing him.

that was hilarious

@Dark knight: Yea. Megadeth being formed was a milestone in metal. Especially since their main objective was to play heavier and faster than metallica.

rust in peace will always stand the test of time as one of the pinnacle albums in metal history. it's just brutal.

as for metallica's lyrics, well their lyrics for welcome home (Sanitarium), fade to black et all are just profound.

pretty sure if mustaine had stuck with metallica the band would have imploded between the egos of hetfield and mustaine.

That really was not what the video I posted was about, though.
Mustaine, agreed, is amazing.
Youthanasia was the best thing I ever bought, till Risk came along. Every note and word in those two is a masterpiece.
