Heard of them but haven't heard their music.

Look, the old bands are good. However, right now is the most exciting era (since the 80's) for Metal music. The global metal scene has exploded in the last decade. Today metal is possibly the most diverse genre of music. It's evolved to emcompass and incorporate elements from other genres like classical, punk, jazz, funk, folk, electro, hip-hop, industrial to name a few and yet remain uniquely metal. There are so many new and innovative bands releasing some very exciting music as we speak and boundaries are being pushed every day. See the traditional bands (Maiden, Sabbath,Priest etc) are very good. Yet they were also new bands when they started out and are so revered because they did something innovative back then and pushed the envelope further. If you're just going to restrict yourself to older bands you are missing out on a lot (and I meant a LOT) of great new music!

Listening to some old Carcass - perhaps the pioneers of the Melodic Death Metal style which came out in the 90s (Dark Tranquillity, In Flames etc) - some horrible medical/gory terms in their earlier albums but Heartwork is very good.

Love Carcass dude. "Reek of Putrefaction" was pretty raw(pun not intended). Have you seen the cover for that album?

Heartwork is pretty melodic. In my opinion, it is death metal with a thrashy flavor! Now that is some good metal!

I've been listening to My Dying Bride a lot lately. They're an extremely talented band. The music is doomy, morose, artsy and unique. I happened to watch a video called 'my wine in silence' . It's a very beautiful song (if you can call a metal song beautiful) that's stuck in my head like chewing gum on a shoe! Would like to share it with you folks, here goes:

Tell me about it. They are one my favorite doom metal bands. The best IMO is The Whore, the Cook and the Mother from the 34.788 % complete record. When I heard the song first, I listened to back to back at least 10 times.

The story behind 5 Minutes alone:

Phil Anselmo was being heckled by a fan at a show. So Anselmo asks the crowd to kick his butt. Later the fan's upset father was quoted as saying, "just give me five minutes alone with that Anselmo guy and I'll show him".

Great song though. Love Dime's guitar sound!

Also love Dime's high pitch "divebombing" during solos like the ones towards the end of cemetary gates.

Speaking of Coroner, I remember "Masked Jackal" being played quite frequently on Headbangers' Ball(the good ol' days....sigh).

I'm also gearing up for the weekend and loading my i-phone as we speak. On the list:

Amon Amarth
Danzig (new album)
Electric Wizard (Stoner/Doom)
Enslaved (Progressive Black Metal)
Evile (Thrash)
Gorgoroth (satanic black metal)
Katatonia (prog/doom)
My Dying Bride
Fantomas (Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo etc)
I (Abbath's side project-Black n roll)
Impaled Nazarene
Iwrestledabearonce
Meshuggah
Municipal Waste (speed trash/punk )
Orange Goblin
& Slayer

It's gonna be one hell of a weekend.....wish you guys the same.....<lml

I listened to one of their albums called Sonic Firestorm. It was too heavy for me!
