re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

While not strictly metal, Bangalore members note that Avial is playing CounterCulture this Saturday. Entry is Rs 600/-

re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Is it true that Mayhem is playing Bangalore in September? Will not miss this one , chance to watch the legendary Hellhammer

A friend also mentioned that Cannibal Corpse is expected too, makes it all the more mind boggling if true. Alex Webster is just mental, not to forget Pat O Brien.

Was very disappointed that Alcest did not make it to Pune, there were reports about this band as well. If you have not heard Alcest, check out their latest album 'Shelter' ...it's nothing short of a masterpiece. They totally ditched their black metal roots for this one. If you are a black metal person, their earlier albums should suffice..multi layered guitars, screaming vocals, clean vocals, mellow parts, blast beats..they have it all.

Anyone listened to Meytal Cohen. Thought this rendition of "Toxicity" was good!

Starring Meytal Cohen on drums with Jennifer Lynn and Christine Wu on Electric Violins.

Guys don't miss Wintersun's masterpiece - Time I.

It's brilliant, polished and extremely well thought out; the complexity of each track is mind boggling. Plus the whole Oriental theme to it.

Do give it a shot , cheers!

Cant believe this did not come up yet! How often does one get a kick of listening to a newly released classic material just bought?

Just loving the new Priest album (Redeemer of Souls) released this month. Just cant believe that Halford is 60+ and his voice is way better than many out there!

Some killer guitar work as well. Every one is in form.

PS: Hear Halford scream on Valhalla. Cant believe this is a 60+ guy. Easily the best track of the album.

If someone is into the "classic" hard rock sound - do check up Black Keys.
Very refreshing to hear something today sounding like almost 50 years back music.

I hope it is not killed by over companding and loudness war production.

^^ Huge fan of the Black Keys. Love the raw vocals and that crunch in their guitar-work. Hint of Led-Zep and King-Crimson in their sound.

Definitely, the first time I listened them was in School of Rock movie!
I though they must've be from 60-70s era. Especially the song signature, that guitar tone (fuzz pedal) and the sound of drums*.
Very Montrose/Mountain/Led Zepp/Jimi Hendrix.

Imagine my surprise when I found that they are current era band!

*Sound of drums = basically the snare. Have you ever wondered how the snare sound in studio records till 70s or 80s used to sound like a real snare playing in front of you. And today it sounds like someone playing on a keyboard program.

Check out Anubis Gate. Awesome prog metal band without the unnecessary wankery.

Totally agree ! Halford is the "Metal God" !!

re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

I mostly blast some Nevermore, Slayer, Kreator, Sodom, Machine Head & stuff like that while driving in the city. And I switch to some Bach, Handel, Paganini stuff while cruising on the highways. Keeps me calm

Also but on a related note, any of you bhpians making it to Bangalore Open Air this weekend? Lineup includes Destruction (Teutonic Thrash Metal, on the lines of Kreator, Sodom etc.), Rotting Christ (Greek Black Metal), Cadaver Mutilator (Italian Brutal Death Metal), The Down Troddence (Groove/Thrash metallers from Kannur/Bangalore), Threinody (Thrashers from Bangalore), Armament (Kolkata Thrash Metal outfit) and Girish & The Chronicals (Hard Rock/Heavy Metal form Gangtok/Bangalore). It's happening in CounterCulture, Whitefield on 13th September. Previous two editions of Bnagalore Open Air wee a blast, i hope this one will be as killer.

re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Gone are the days when Bangalore was a haven for rock and metal concerts. I didn't even see one ad for this festival anywhere.
