Thanks for your inputs. I am still not able to understand the logic behind lock-in here, that too for 5 years when they are not a Tax saving instrument. For now, its a pass for me.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Hi,
Need help in selecting MFs for SIP monthly for 10 years for retirement. Any website to read and which help in choosing MFs is also fine. Thanks.

Here is what I would do for a 10 year horizon:

1. SBI/Nippon Small Cap Fund
2. PPFAS Long*Term*Equity

If you look at any 10 year period, smallcaps would have given you better returns than any other category. Nippon and SBI have a great track record.

PPFAS gives you exposure to US markets and the best of Indian companies.
It also allows you to diversify meaningfully.

Any additional funds will only over-diversify your investments and not add to the returns or reduce risk.

Disclaimer: I am a SEBI registered research analyst (not a MF advisor).

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

Hello,

I have been using MFU https://www.mfuonline.com/ from 5 years now. While its not the aesthetically best option, but it used to do the trick for me. My main aim was to opt for Direct funds from single portal. But off late I feel, MFU is making investors life difficult. For example, recently SBI Small Cap stopped lumpsum investment in its funds but they were accepting SIP. But my still monthly SIP order was rejected with no specific reason. I got to know about the SBI' decision only when I tried to search on internet.

I was looking for alternative to MFU. Any advise from members based on their experience?
I do have an account in Upstox. But they are primarily a stock broker, so I felt like they provide very minimal support for MF investment.
Someone in my office suggested Groww, any personal experience with it?

Thanks!

Try Funds India (no direct schemes option, though), or

ET Money (only through App.). They offer direct schemes also.

Try MF Central. That seems to have a much cleaner interface. With the newer apps like Groww you will have to open a new demat account for any mutual fund purchase and you cannot see your overall portfolio there.

Also did you do a SIP or SPP with MFU? An SPP is just a lumpsum payment from the perspective of the mutual fund.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

VR team is saying that Multicap funds may be a better bet than the currenr flexicap funds because of the forced segmentation of funds by size. Flexicap funds are largely behaving like large cap funds. Can someone suggest a good multicap fund as I would like to get out of UTI flexicap fund- its proving to be quite volatile.

It was SPP. MFU used to recommend it over SIP in recent past. I believe that might be the reason for rejection.

Quant Active Fund is a good multicap fund. Have a look.

One correction here. It is PPFAS "Flexi Cap" fund. I guess it was called long term equity before but is flexi cap now.

I (and wife) have direct investments in 9 AMCs. I started investing in them before all the centralized portals came up, I have continued to use AMC websites.

My investment strategy is to do lumpsum investments in Liquid/Money market funds whenever I have excess funds and have 2 year STPs to other funds. NSDL CAS anyway sends a consolidated account statement every month. As a result, I don't have to login to the AMC websites very often.

Some of the AMC websites are very good - PPFAS, Franklin Templeton, HDFC, DSP. ICICI is strictly okay but does the job done. Nippon India and Aditya Birla are truly pathetic.
---
I maintain the investment details and passwords (semi-masked; guessable only by my wife) in a spreadsheet and saved it to a cloud service. I have written the password (again semi-masked) of the cloud account and kept it in our home locker for her to access if I do not wake up one fine morning.

---

You can now include NPS details into the NSDL CAS. Navigate via the top banner on the NSDL Protean page here

Hope this helps.

Re: The Mutual Funds Thread

I have the SIP running in below funds
Mirae asset midcap
Kotak flexicap
PGIM flexicap
PPFAS flexicap
Samco active momentum (very recent)

There is another at least 5 more years of SIP, can be even more.

Of the pack, I found the PGIM flexi underperforming by quite some margin. It was started in Nov 2021. I also checked performance of PGIM midcap out of curiosity and found that too underperforming by a bog margin in last 2 years.
Anyone tracking PGIM and knows the reasons?

Thinking to stop future sip in PGIM and shift them to mirae midcap which had done well. Please suggest.

PGIM follows Growth style of investment very aggressively, similar to Axis AMC. For the last two years, this style has underperformed a lot which partially explains the underperformance.

What’s more worrying is that PGIM has transferred both CIO Srinivas Rao and fund manager Aniruddha Raha to other verticals (PMS etc.) earlier this year. They have brought in Vinay Paharia, former Union MF CIO. Paharia’s track record at Union was nothing to write home about.

I have been investing in PGIM flexicap as well as midcap for the last couple of years. In a major dilemma whether to switch or not, I will probably wait till the end of the year before deciding.

I have a SIP in PGIM Midcap for the past 2 years and the fund has been surely underperforming compared to its peers like HDFC Mid cap opportunities etc. The SIP is going to end in Dec 2023, will need to think hard about continuing the same.

Another underperforming fund in my portfolio is the Parag Parikh Flexicap. Once a darling of the MFs, this one too has been very slow moving for reasons not known. Any views of this fund? I have a SIP in this one too. Should I continue or shift to other fund?
