As you guys are so knowledgable, let me see if you can help me out with a recommendation. My family (in-laws, small kids etc.) want to go to the hills e.g. Musoorie, Shimla and we want to stay in an excellent hotel. We will be going in mid-April for 4-5 nights. Our criteria are:

- accessible from Delhi area
- child friendly i.e. things for toddlers to do
- 5* standard with good food & room service
- away from the crowds & bazaars

I have already been directed towards the following hotels:

Any comments about these two places?

Looking forward to some suggestions - thanks in advance :)

OFF TOPIC: The Wildflower hotel? WOW!!! I really really think its amazing!!

ON-TOPIC: I can't really help. Have never been to Shimla. I frequent more towards Lonavla and Mahabaleshwar.

I find Shimla a much better drive than massouri... very good roads.

Wildflower hall might be good but its actually not shimla!

In shimla away from the market, you could try Oberoi Cecil.

Ashok, Hi .. !! Let me know a few more details about ur intended trip and maybe I can advise you about Simla .. I need to know what u wanna do, activities that u want, how much of a distnace are you ready to drive, budget, and also the date of intended trip etc !!

Wild Flower Hall is an excellent top of the line property sitting on a lil hill surriunded by thick forests and totally away from the maddening crowds. The town is not too far away .. about 15-20 mins drive !!

Shimla is too crowded for my taste, if going to the hills I prefer a location that is peaceful/tranquil. Kasauli is a lot quieter (not in the summer months when the Chandigarh people invade and litter the place). There is kasauli resorts as you make the approach to Kasauli. Access is good, just follow the Shimla NH and turn off near the Dharampur dhabas. I would not turning off and making use of the dhaba for food (just a few hundred feet further) and then turn back and head to Kasauli.

Chail is another good alternative. Again take the Shimla NH and turn off near Khandaghat. There is the palace hotel. The Maharaja suite is decent (nice and large) although the bathroom spoilt the look of the room.

If you decide on Shimla then Wildflower is the best. The decor and atmosphere in Cecil looked a bit stale/in need of renovation on my last visit.

Cecil is not 5*. Wildflower hall is.

The Ananda Hotel & Spa is amazing. www.anandaspa.com

Dont know about activities for kids though.

Wildflower is supposed to be one of Oberoi's finest. My cousin who went there said its just superb. www.oberoihotels.com

First, dont go to mussorie, or for that matter anywhere in Uttranchal.
If you really want to go to uttranchal look for quiet places like chamba etc,.
Uttranchal is the worst state when it comes to toursit facilities. Mussorie is full of horse ****, you dont find good food anywhere blah blah.
Now himachal is a different story. No matter how much the tourist rush, there are highway dhabas where you get good food for < 50rs/head. Try that in UP or Uttranchal!
Now in himachal there are basically 4 secions you can go to.
1. Shimla-Shilon-Kufri-Narkanda section
2.Kullu Manali section
3. Dalhaousie, Mcleodganj section
4. Kangra Valley section

Out of these the shimla section is most accesible. but shimla is crowded like hell.
So I would suggest you go to Chahal or Shillon resorts near kufri.
For your family trip shillon is great as its near kufri away from mad rush, but bookings may be hard to come by. you can also go to CLub mahindra resort at kufri, though in March last year it wore a pretty deserted look.

If you want to stay in shimla, wildflower is the best, but then shimla is crowds!

Hi Ashok,

Not sure about their latest policy, but the Wildflower Hall may not accept reservations if you a child of 12 years or below is part of your entourage.

It says so on their site under Child Policy

Wow - thanks for that information.

How about the Grand Palace in Srinagar?
