Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

After Steve Jobs now Jagjit Singh.
These are cruel times.

My few words on this Gentleman.

Why Jagjit Singh is so special?

He was not the first Ghazal singer. But he was the first one to sing the ones which college guys like me could understand. He brought ghazals to common man.
I will remember in my college hostel almost every other room had a PC playing on his songs. In those emotionally turbulent and messed up times, Jagjit's ghazals were an anchor for guys like me.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

RIP Jagjit Singh. One of the finest voices I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. You were the one who introduced me to the magical world of Ghazhals.

Tum itna joh muskura rahe ho, kya gham hai jisko chupa rahe ho? What an amazingly sung ghazal that was. That and many more. RIP the legend of Ghazals - Jagjit Singh.

RIP Jagjit Singh.
A true connoisseur of the good things in life. I remember meeting him once- a true lesson in humility.
He will definitely be fondly remembered by all those who like good music.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

So how many are playing Jagjit Singh today on their laptops, ipods, anything?

I am just reliving all the moments in hostel, on long drives, on breakups, on sloshed nights with friends, with moments lost forever.

Such a deep sense of connection to the singer, pity it came out only after his death. Or maybe that's the way its meant to be.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

Sad news.

I inherited the passion for listening to good music, including ghazals, from my father and also his audio collection. His collection boasts a good amount of Jagjit Singh's creations. I'm definitely gonna hear them a lot.

He was a great artist no doubt. A good gentleman, I'm not sure of as I have heard a couple of incidents of his arrogance. Anyway, it is a big loss to the Ghazal fans around the world.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

A Legend has passed away.

It was his voice which ignited the interest in me for Gazals. One of his masterpieces "Woh kagaz ki kashti.. woh barish ka paani" is my all time favourite.

RIP sir.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

A very sad event, but was on the cards fro some time. I have been fortunate to hear him person twice. The first time was when Chitraji also sang at concerts. Both were memorable events. May his soul find eternal peace.

Re: Jagjit Singh passes away.

RIP Jagjit Singh, we will miss you. For me Ghazal meant only Jagjit Singh and it was probably his soothing voice with easy to understand lyrics that made it easy for us normal people to understand Ghazals.

PS: This month seems to be going really bad, first Steve Jobs and now Jagjit Singh, I hope it stops here only :(
