18 tigers, 17 lions killed

Sheriff: 18 tigers among 48 exotic animals killed - BostonHerald.com

some 18 bengal tigers and 17 lions have been killed among other exotic animals in zanesville, after being let loose by the owner who apparently killed himself. Reportedly Ohio has one of the laxest laws on exotic pets.

I am surprised this one individual was able to procure 18 tigers. This place is around 140 miles from my home.

That is ridiculous, How could he lay his hands on Bengal tigers? Very sad to hear the animals in extinction are killed in this way and numbers.

reading the news also surprises me, why did they shoot those animals around the deal body of the owner in the farm, simply they could have shot the tranquilizers.

public safety. I heard on radio that they tried to tranquilize one and it got out of control.

I doubt if that was true. These people are the world's most scared souls to bravely hunt down these innocent and magnificent animals.

Why don't they ban exotic animals as pet against "public safety" at first?

ok, by public safety they mean for toddlers playing in their backyard, not well armed sheriff's deputies. These animals were spotted on highways.

In any case it is most pathetic incident to kill so many animals at once and not even trying to capture them before shooting. Knowing these people's air born search capacity it is still a question for debate.

RIP to all the cats that passed in this incident.

They should have tried capturing the cats instead of killing them.

BTW, Ohio has one the most relaxed laws in USA for keeping wild animals in captivity. They should not allow anybody to keep wild cats or any wild animals in captivity.

Re: 18 tigers, 17 lions killed

The US is one of the most double faced countries in the world. Supposedly the most advanced and sophisticated military possessing country could't tranquilize a group of animals which were anyways kept in captivity so would have been a lot less ferocious then there wild counterparts.

Re: 18 tigers, 17 lions killed

Just read the news article about the same in the TOI. The guy had a whole wildlife park in his house or what? The article says there were also bears and cheetahs there. This guy was suffering from some psychiatric disorder or what? Secondly how did he get hold of all these animals? Is it so easy to smuggle these big wild cats specially the cheetah into the US for an average Joe? And what has PETA been doing about this. They seem to really feel strongly about all those KFC outlets.

I think kill orders were issued during the night. They switched to tranquilizers during the day.

The man basically left everyone for dead- himself, the animals and the public.

Real bad by the US authorities. This shows thier ill prepardness.

This makes me feel Mysore authorities were better, atleast they were able to tranquilize and capture two rogue elephants about a month back.

Here's an image of the shoot-out, truly saddening to see such many exotic animals killed.

Re: 18 tigers, 17 lions killed

Oh btw there are more pet tigers in the US then there are Tigers in the wild in India. This is sad but they just did something in haste so i think they solved a crisis as the issue would have gotten worse if any human died.

Not only Mysore authorities, almost all Indian agencies are far better when you compare them with the US counterparts in terms of equipment/fund/salary/technology. Compare Mumbai Police with NYPD for example. Just how many helicopters the Mumbai Police can afford?

IMO the Ohio laws are just far too lenient; first of all, such exotic animals shouldn't have been there. Secondly, a law that allow private citizens to keep such cats must also have provision to address scenarios like this.

So, the world's most hyped, trigger-happy nation have used excessive force. Again. No big news.
