Hi TBHPians,

Out at sea we can get some outstanding photos without even trying thanks to the beauty of nature ! Would like to share these pics with fellow team BHPians.
All sailors here on TBHP are requested to add to this thread with some pics of their present or last ships, beatiful seaviews etc!

Here goes the first lot - a few sunrises and sunsets, some whales frolicking nearby and generally nice looking photos.

Small bits of trivia here about the Panama Canal -

The entire system of locks used to raise or lower the ships uses only gravity to raise or lower the ships in the locks. No pumps are used. Considering this, obviously no water can be raised from the sea level, thus only the fresh water from the Gatun lake is used. So one can imagine the annual rain fall this lake has, that it can actually lose somewhere around 100,000 cubic metres of water per ship and there are around 12000 transits every year and still have enough water depth all year round for ships to transit safely.

Another interesting snippet is that the transiting ships are raised about 85 feet from the Pacific sea level and then after crossing the gatun lake are lowered around a 100 feet to the Atlantic sea level !

One can actually see the ships transiting real time on the Panama canal live webcam. I have called up home a couple of times just before entering the locks to tell my family to see us live in transit ! Heres the link to that.

It would be great viewing for folks like me who might never get a chance to explore the sea - unless i save enough and go for some cruise on some exotic liner.
