Hey 350L,

You have a Fire GL? lucky!...is this a desktop or laptop?
Howcum u chose a proGL card when you said this comp is mainly for games?
SLK had some good points, check that you are running the latest version of directX, and try putting your hardware acceleration at min. and try again.
Also as sheruken said, reinstallying the drivers wont hurt.

goodluck,
R

Your Processor speed : I can think of 2 possible reasons,
1st : The Laptops use Mobile Processors, which actually run at less speed (Ghz) than their Performance rating specifies, that said, Laptops are sometimes rated by their performance rating than by their actual Ghz. (might not be true in all cases)

2nd : Laptops use power management policies to downgrade the processor speed so that the battery can provide more backup. So a good option would be to see if you are running on Batteries and also check your power setup to ensure that the processor is not downgraded while working on AC power.

All this might be a bit Toshiba specific, but is worth a try.

Is your Laptop Intel Centrino Mobile Technology,
If thats the case then probably everyone would advice not to change the processor performance. Ofcourse you can manually overclock it, but there are more chances of it crashing. But as far as I know, I have played games on (Overclocked) P3 with a 512MB RAM and a good graphics card GeForce 4200 to be precise and it didnt give me problem. But because laptops arent conventionally made for games, there can be problems if you overclock the processor speed.
Though NFSU uses high level of graphics it also works on the lowest of graphic accelerator cards (if kept as low settings as possible.)
And besides, laptop isnt my area, but if you are looking to buy a Desktop, u can let me know, I can tell you what all things u need to go for..
I'll make you an Ultimate Gaming Machine..

SLK has a good point, did u put the power management on "always on" and plug in AC power and check?

SLK & Sheruken, Im quite into computers as well!
Luckily, being in the states i managed to get a pretty good (yet budget) setup.
i got a>
ASUS P4P800Delux mobo
Intel P4 2.6C with HyperThreading
512MB Corsair 2-3-2-6 XMS series with heatsinks
Antec Truepower 380W supply
80GB western digital 8MB cache 7200RPM
80GB IBM 7200RPM *(no raid set up.. wanted to do a RAID 0, but had too much valuable data and got a bit scared
Chaintech Nvidia Geforce4 Titanium 4200 128mb with video in&out
Logitech MX500 (lllooooove this 8 button mouse! the BEST for gaming)
and a SONY 19" tube and a 15" tube = dual monitors!! which make using a computer and multitasking REAL fun!!!! a MUST for your nest upgrade!!!
Also, a creative 2.1 soundsystem..
Not to mention here at school i have a killer net connection. Get 1mbps downloads from the high end sites!

heres a crappy pic i have>

Hey S350, well either ways XP will increase the clock speed if and when needed.
There is really no benefit in running the CPU at higher speeds when it is not considered to be close to peak useage.

As i said before, this is a BUDGET pc i would have gone for a Pro OpenGL card if i had the choice (and money!!) The whole setup above was manged in well under $1,300/- !

Well that is a 2nd hand monitor i bought for $30. Its 15" compared to my main 19", so the only way i could keep the screen a constant height was to turn the monitor sideways! *Nvidia cards give u great flexibility and options when it comes to running dual monitors!

Dude, Rehaan now thats a lifestyle, you got man! though I challenge you, my comp area is much more Shabbier than that.. And I am proud of it!
BTW - R, that is a very impressive and a creative config u got there.
Heres mine, I'd love to upgrade it b4 4th Quarter 2004' though :
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.83 Ghz)
1 Gig DDR Crucial RAM
nForce 2 Mobo
128MB ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
MX700 Mouse (though I hate it, as much as I love MX300 and MX500)
17" LG Sucky monitor (due for an upgrade)
No DVD Burner yet, my dell has it but I've not burnt a single DVD yet, God knows why..

And Rehaan, yes I am from bombay.. And am glad to know you play CS
Well probably in the Future, the T-BHP meet up, we can plan out something (i.e. after doing Karting, ofcourse.. )

Hey Man,

yeah...my comp area is comparatively clean in the pic
Nice config!!..are you gonna go with AMD again when u upgrade?
Why dont you like the MX700? (im so glad some1 else has an MX though!!) i was considering it..but it was a bit too expensive and there was a bit of a signal delay, which i didnt want, especially for gaming...
One thing i am particular about if having a sony tube, aperture grill....best damn monitors!
CS sounds good!
