2. Food habits?
3. Anything is particular to be taken care of ?
4. Climate conditions suitable?
5. Finally, can we have some pics please?
I did not toilet train him. Rabbits have a habit of defecating while they eat. I put his food in the basket only and never on the floor. So he sits there and chews all the time and passes his droppings there itself. He did urinate on the floor initially, but then he started doing it there itself, on his own.
Good for me. I just had to place a plastic tub below the basket and it collects all his waste.
I used to have a colony of rabbits on the terrace several years back, they behaved naturally and were almost semi wild. But this one is my wife's pet and she has cuddled and fussed over him so much that he no longer behaves like a proper rabbit and more like a teddy bear. If I sit on the ground he jumps on my lap and climbs onto my shoulder. And if I put him on his back and pat his head, he goes off to sleep !

Regarding your questions-
1) Yes I believe 5-6 yrs is the average
2) Mine does well on fresh and dried grasses and vegetable peelings from the kitchen. He loves cabbage and has a few leaves everyday
3) Nothing in particular. Avoid too much sweet or starchy foods(although they love it) . They need some fibre in their diet, grasses and hay are the best. Also they do not usually drink water and get the moisture from their food.
4) Avoid dampness and extreme conditions.
5) Here you go..mr buggs relaxing like a maharaja

Indeed a royal sleep. Thanks for the pic. Could I also request a pic of the basket + tray set up? Just want to know how is it.

Do these need any vaccination?

Dug up an old pic for you. (ignore the parrot, he had just flown to steal some cabbage)

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

My beloved furbaby passed away a few days back. She was with us for 14 years. Still trying to recover from our loss but I suspect a large part of our heart she has taken away forever. Penned a few lines in her memory

Team-BHPians and their Pets-brandy.jpg

It still hurts...

I brought you home on a bright spring day, a little baby you cuddled into me
We slept together, the same bed we shared
Watched you play all around the house, you enchanted one and all
The special treats and your toys, added so much life to the house
The long walks and those drives, how time flies
Forever there you were for me, sad or happy that I may be

Then it started to go wrong, the vet said nothing can be done
You still fought on, as if nothing was wrong
But this was a battle that cant be won

The empty house and the erie silence, forever seems to haunt me
A million times I cry, until I simply fall asleep
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane
I'd run down the path to heaven and bring you back again

I know you are safe with the Lord, health and strength in abundance above
Play and be merry in heaven above,
For when my time comes, my friend
I shall be with you again

Hi guys... Lots of Dog lovers around on the site... I err, we have an unique pet in a Torquoise Blue Veil Tailed Betta fish named Goldy. My daughters present actually. These are very hardy and colourful fish, love to stay alone, you can actually see them change colors as per their moods...

I am sorry for your loss. But remember that all dogs go to heaven as they are the purest souls filled with unconditional love. May her soul R.I.P. Why don't you adopt another dog, it'll help you cope up sooner.

Sorry to hear about your loss buddy, have been through this twice and is very painful. If you are willing, adopting a pet will be the ultimate healing for this sorrow by giving our love to a needy soul. We did this and it definitely helps.

Thanks for the response. Can you please share the details of the centre at Andheri(W)?
If the Mahalaxmi one you are referring to is Petzone, they are presently not offering the services and are likely to restart soon.

Many thanks friend for your kind words. Its heartwarming to see people understand the bond with one's pet. For quite a few "it's just a pet"

I agree, adopting another buddy, would certainly help but a lot of circumstances has changed between then and now. I have an infant for company now and my work timings barely leave me a few hours to bond with my baby. To add to that I travel quite frequently too. In light of this I don't think it would be right (and selfish too) on my part on bring a buddy home.

However as I keep longing to share my love with another buddy, I've decided to volunteer for an NGO that shelters animals. Don't know if this approach is right but I surely want to give something back to the wonderful angels..

Thanks Maverick for the kind words. I had read about your loss when I was looking for specific answers for my dog's illness then. I could feel the pang when I read the ode and still remember that on the same day I spent more time with my buddy. Never felt grief with so much depths. I can imagine how you'd have been through this twice and still have courage.

Adoption would certainly be the route for me in future.

Thanks Arup! Give it sometime and adopt when you can dedicate time for your new buddy, meanwhile volunteering for an Animal shelter will be very helpful.

Has happened with me. An American Spitz that I literally grew up with - Was with me since I was 13 passed away last year and it felt as if a part of me went away.

I still go home and expect her to jump at me from one of the corners and then I find her no more. The pain is absolutely unbearable.

Some part of me cannot simply handle that pain anymore, that's why I have not got another one.

Would be great if I can contribute to rehabilitate/spend time at NGOs which work for dogs.
