A lot of trainers and NGOs will help in case of indie pets. Call CUPA and see if they can recommend someone. If he was picked from the streets then his behaviour is probably due to some ill treatment by humans which has instilled fear in his mind. One way to start is to ask your friends to come over to you when you are outdoor with the pup on a leash and just stand next to you. Let the dog sniff around your friend's body and essentially be reassured that he/she is not a danger. Tell him to basically ignore the pup until the pup is comfortable with the new person. Then ask the friend to give him a treat. Try this for a few days with different folks until the pup realizes that strangers aren't going to harm him. The process may take time but the behaviour can definitely be changed. The sooner you start the better. Good luck!

We've done the get-a-friend-home tactic and it did work. My sister cane home, also my friends and he did reluctantly socialise with them and by the time they left he was playing with them. But when I take him for morning walk, he gets riled up when he sees people, even about 100mts off and tries to find a way to escape and hide.

I'm now considering taking him to a dog counsellor/ trainer, hoping that would help. I really want to get this fear out of him.

Good to know the friend-at-home technique works. Which is why getting a stranger on the street to approach and treat him should also help. A counsellor/trainer is the way to go. Good luck!

A good news for all pet lovers or to be specific dog lovers in Hyderabad. There's a dog park coming up in Gachibowli, in the lane behind The Platina. When coming from Gachibowli circle one has to take left at the Radisson hotel and then turn right at Maruti True value.

Will sterilising the dog take away their aggression?

I have a 11 yr old male dog & added another male which is now closer to 2 yrs old. For the last 2-3 days it is howling at night. Looks like few street dogs are getting front of our gate...thought the howling could be because of that. Shifted it to a difference place. Even there the howling continues. Neighbours have started to complain about the noise which is very valid as it disturbs their sleep. Me too not in station, hence have to decide how to go about that. Any inputs pls?

Sterilization is always a better, safer and more responsible option. And for males it is simpler too. Please get it done, as advised by your regular vet

I agree with digitalnirvana. Sterilizing will help in this case. It's not about aggression, but a natural mating urge that causes the dogs to howl. This heightens during full moon and new moon phases.

But going by your comment, I'll also advise to make sure they are not left alone at home, as loneliness will compound their boredom and hence they will seek partners of their species more desperately.

Our beloved lab, Spike passed away on 25th September. He was a little over 13 years old. Had been suffering with a tumor near this upper jaw and nose for the past couple of months and was under medication.

He had to be put down.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. It's probably very difficult to let a family member go. I feel depressed every time my dog falls ill and dread the day.....

That is very sad. Such a difficult decision to make. Condolences and sympathy on the loss of your canine friend and family member.

Here, I have lost two young cats to the street dogs in the past two months. My very dear, laid-back, little Venki spent about ten days in the vet hospital, and survived major surgery. The vet had always told me not to have too much hope, but even he was surprised (and almost as upset as me) when, just as he appeared to be showing tiny signs of recovery, he suddenly, literally, dropped dead.

I did not welcome my single tom cat making his pregnant girlfriend at home here, but now that three kittens has become just one, and five cats has become three, I regret that I ever complained about having too many cats!

Really sorry about that. The worst thing is that they cant speak and communicate what is actually happening to them.

Our sympathies and condolences aditya - the first few weeks are always difficult. And we are glad that you took the decision, however painful it must have been.

Our Kluso is 11 and is still sprightly. But the give-aways are his occasional bouts of absent-mindedness when he seems to be lost in another world, and his occasional stumbles when leaping into the open back of the car for their morning spin.
Patience & love, patience and love.......

I thought so too, but in the original post on FB, the OP said it's a Caravan Hound.

Looking again at the pic, this one is a little different. I guess the owner would know. Btw, We had a Mudhol too.
