Mishti is a gorgeous creature, VWAllstar and deserves all the pampering she gets. Mishti I believe is a popular Bengali endearment (right, we are Bengalis) and a great name for your pet. Attaching a couple of photos from our own archives (they've appeared earlier too) - today we are senior citizens and can no longer find the physical energy needed to devote to boxers.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Hi all. Is there anyone here owning an Akita? Have been contemplating getting one into our family. We are not first time dog owners so that isn’t an issue. Have gone through a lot of literature available on the net about Akitas. Wanted some first hand information from an experienced Owner.
Thanks in anticipation

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Dear all,
With profound grief, I would like to inform you all about the sudden demise of Red (Betta fish). As his name suggests he was a real fighter. He is survived by his friends Mr White (giant gourami), Meg, Mobydik (oranda goldfish), Goldy and Goldfinger (goldfish).

Thank you, Red for bringing happiness to our lives. He is buried in our balcony garden. Rest in peace, dear Red. Sleep well. Will meet you in another life.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none are wrong.

This is our bundle of Joy. Who’s treated as a kid since he came in our lives.

The only worst part of having them is that you know one day they will cross the rainbow bridge.

My wife just sent this pic of Jasper, the cat who decided to make our house it's home as well

Hanging clothes out to dry in the terrace and he's there on top of the grill with his tail squeezed through the grill and was playing with it!

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Has anyone undergone treatment for CKD (chronic kidney disease) for their cat? One of my parent's 7 year old cat is seemingly facing this - unable to pee or poop and not eating anything. His blood and urine samples were taken and the reports indicated extremely high creatinine levels. Currently being given drips with nedicine twice a day.

Not my own, but I've seen it.

I'm sorry. the cat's days are numbered. But if it is not too far advanced then treatment with special diet etc can add quite a few to the number.

Very best wishes to the cat --- and to your parents. I appreciate the care they are giving.

Check with the vet.
There is a medicine called Azodyl. I used it nearly 16-18 years ago for my dog when she was seriously ill with Kidney trouble.
It used to only be available from the US - NJ by a company called Kibow Pharma.
Please check if this will work for cats.

Thank you for the kind words / advice. Currently the cat is being given drips (with antibiotics) twice a day and additional medication being administered as suggested by the vet. He's getting better (as per reports by my parents); but it's still way too early to really say anything concrete. It's clearly a case of advance CKD (chronic kidney disorder) so we are aware this isn't over by a long shot but atleast for now, he seemingly is getting better, looking from his food intake and pee/pooping occurrences.

I'm heading to Chennai tomorrow to help as much as I can; and also to plan the months ahead (the current treatment is for only 2 weeks). Kudos to the amazing folks at the Besant Memorial Animal dispensary to helping us at this stage.

BMAD is a wonderful place! I used to follow them on instagram, but it got too heart-rending!

I take my cats, when necessary, to a specialist cats-only clinic near Thiruvanmiyur. It's the only vet clinic where I have ever seen cats on the outside trying to get in! But I have to say that not everyone has praise for it. And it's a little but expensive. Dr Cat if you want to check it out.

What's the update on her food situation?

N&D and RC are one of the best available dry foods which are available. N&D IMO is better. Maybe you can try different flavours which are available within N&D. My cat for instance, shows more inclination for fish flavoured foods as compared to Chicken flavour.

You can also try Orijen, Acana and Arden Grange dry food. Orijen, as per my knowledge is the best dry food brands for cats and dogs. Acana is a sub-brand of Orijen and is slightly cheaper. Orijen, if brought in large packs, costs the same, or slightly lesser than the N&D. You can find these on sites like HUFT, Petsy, Supertails, Justdogs and Amazon.

Meet 4 year old female dog Hachi. On her papers she is an Indian Pariah, I really don't know where she fits though. The best thing about her is the way she wakes me up in an extremely polite manner in the morning for her walk outside. Dogs indeed are incredible beings.

She loves sunbathing even in hot weather.
