No such thing. Docking the tail is apparently the "breed standard". A painful process done on a week old pup.

drbabuanand - Tetras and Danios make good starter fish.
You can add a couple of corydoras for variety - they are bottom feeders and fun to watch.

,

Do people really think killing chickens and other animals could be equally painful ? I wonder people talking about inhumanity towards animals and having butter chicken masala as lunch.

PS: I do not advocate cutting off the tail. Just wanted to see what exactly is inhuman and what is rightful.

@Neo, killing the chicken / other animals is a quick process - the animal is not living with the pain after that. Here the pup is subjected to pain for the simple reason of making it look attractive to the homo sapien who is going to adopt the pup.

But if you talk about what is in-human & what is right, even having a pet is not right since we are then interfering in the natural life of the animal, making it live to our terms & in our conditions. Outside it's native habit & habitat.

I know its a quick process, but must be painful. Only difference is, the animal cant let you know how painful it was. Keeping a pet and loving it and respecting it as a living being must be a noble thing to do.

It may be noble. We do give it a lot of care, attention & affection. It may even lead a more "secure" and "luxurious" life than it would do in it's native environment. BUT : our homes are not it's native environment. They lose their natural instincts, and will progressively become less intelligent than if they had been in their native surroundings without human interfernce.

A dog's tail is part of its spine. Cutting it is just some crazy fashion that some parts of the word have stamped out. There is no justification.

And it can be compared to eating chickens only after eating the tail.

To see the wag of a docked tail is heart wrenching. Akin to moving an half-amputated limb.

Don't you guys think you are discriminating between dogs & other animals out
here?
Docking of tails is an inhuman act done for enhancing the so called looks. Chicken & other animals are killed for food & seducing one's taste buds. Both are done by human beings for their own selfish indulgences. Killing of any animal is inhuman and can't be justified. And talking about the duration of pain is pointless! Ultimately the poor animals, who can't speak up for themselves are being put through tremendous pain for however long or short period of time it may be!

Very nicely put. Anyone who thinks about docking a dog's tail should meditate on what you say.

Just found out that my lab's front upper baby canine tooth broke this morning. It seems to have broken when he was pulling on something. There's still a tiny portion of the tooth in his gum though his gums are not bleeding. Planning to take him to a vet this evening, but any other suggestions? He's around 5 1/2 months old right now.

At what age do permanent teeth of dogs start erupting in place of milk teeth?

Approx 6 months, IIRC. They'll start biting on hard stuff to break their first set.
