manson.
No they cannot browse the site, atleast not all the sections...
Actually they CAN browse the entire site just like members can.

However, they sign up for several reasons -
1. Ability to PM
2. Set their viewing preferences
3. To use "Thread tracker"
4. So the server keeps track of "new posts" for them and doesnt just show "new posts in the last 24hrs"
5. etc

Agree wholeheartedly.

Although a question: 6000 members is very cool, but how many of these actually participate to an appreciable amount in the forum? Anyone with a figure? Cos there are many people with 1 or 2 posts and all.....

Agree with you, perhaps we should deactivate members who arent active over a certain period of time.

Islero, here are the answers

Total members ----------------> 6075
More than 10 posts ------------> 1023
Less than or equal to 1 post ----> 4203

Deactivating may not be goog idea, because there could be thousands of reasons for not communicating. A tem-bhp remains a member as long as he likes. That should be the idea just like having a Bank account which is siiting for you all your life. But, frankly I am shocked by so many inactive members.

Solong....

instead of deactivating the account as per number of posts, there should be some criteria to judge the "Last Activity Done" through which it can be judged when did a member was active last time on this forum, and if he had not visited the forum in certain time frame, then he had to contact administartors to re-activate his account.
something on lines of hotmail inbox deactivation!

No. of BHPians (>50) active in last 3 months: 437
No. of members active in last one month: 887

Draw your inference...

Hey,One very important point,

I know few of my friends in the group who have logins but don't use them. They keep browsing T-Bhp daily but never post anything much as they have to login for that...I think there are many people in this category...so,How is this tracked ?
They simply love T-bhp and use lot of information from it..without logging into it !

I myself created a login(account) after browsing as guest for few weeks !...
If you check out the Guest members at any point of time - its quite a big chunk..so,thats also one thing you may like to consider..though the guests may be repititive(same people browsing again and again as guest)

Quality or Quantity

Just the ramblings of a vacant mind on a bright sunny Sunday Morning.

Having been a member on this forum for over 2 years now(though my number of
posts might say otherwise) I have noticed a new trend emerging.

I'm on BHP all day from work... much to the irritation to my FELLOW
colleague who's on as well but that's another story.

I have noticed that everyday Team-BHP attracts a number of new members,
which is GREAT for the site and all that but how much quality do they
actually contribute to the site.

Please don't be under any misconception that I contribute anything
qualitatively to this site aside from being the resident rabble rouser( a
name given to me.. not made up).

It's really great to see likeminded people getting together here and
discussing our issues/problems with manufacturer's/dealers/fitter's blah
blah blah but what is the ultimate goal of this forum.. is it for all of us
to say that 'I'm part of a community online that has XXX number of people as
member's' or 'I'm part of an online community that is actually making a
difference in the automotive scene in India'

Not to say that both can't happen but if you go through the member's list
you see people who have joined a year or more ago and have not contributed a
thing to the site... quality or otherwise.
Oh well just my thoughts...
Cheers
