Asteroid Mining!!!

Planetary Resources Inc. of Seattle have announced plans to mine asteroids for precious metals and minerals. The company is founded by Eric Anderson and Peter Diamandis who have pioneered the idea of selling rides into space to tourists and, Diamandis’ company offers “weightless” airplane flights.

Investors and advisers to the new company, include Google CEO Larry Page and Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt and explorer and filmmaker James Cameron.

I am not sure the financial feasibility of this venture, there is a lot of unknowns in space exploration let alone space exploitation.

Personally I feel this is one of those pot headed ideas doomed to fail.

But it is a good opportunity for rocket scientists to make a decent fortune. This will also give space exploration a shot in the arm.
