Thank you for the update. Mega factories is a amazing series. I remember watching the Porsche and Ferrari edition of mega factories. Very well presented episodes. Calendar booked for June 10 6 pm .

The show already aired yesterday and I managed to catch some bits. Quite impressed by the factory.

Yea....I also caught parts of this on Monday at night.

It was pretty good, as are most of the Mega Factory episodes. Some of the stuff they talked about in the second half of the show.
  • The shift from Singur to Sanand. The logistics behind shifting the entire factory in one year, from dismantling to setting up to delivering cars all in one year.
  • They also spoke about the Nano catching fires and what measures were taken to mitigate that situation.
  • Challenges of finding labour in Gujrat and addressing that situation.
  • Interviews with Ratan, Ravikant, and factory managers about the shift and the vision.

Overall, from what I caught, it was not quite as detailed as the Mega Factory episodes, where they spend most of the time in various parts of the factory, but also focused on other factors around the Nano story.

Re: Tata Nano Factory to appear on National Geographic

I watched it. I did not understand why both the pistons have to move up and down together. Why can't one move up while another is moving down, like it happens in 4 cylinder engines?

The program showed how the vibrations caused by the engine are cancelled using a balancer shaft that adds weight.

It also showed how Nano is different from other inexpensive cars (such as original Beetle). Nano has the engine below rear seat to save space, while other cars have the engine behind rear seat.

Mr Tata did not like the idea of having bars instead of doors. He was adament on 4 doors to help sari-clad women.

The car has no collapsible steering because the empty front of the car can absorb impact.

The first engine was so crude that they got another engineer to revise the engine design.

Also, training the crew includes spiritual sessions (yoga).
Engine is assembled by hand.

I really felt proud watching this program. The Tata engineers struggled for 3 years and now have a great product. In my city Pune I do see many more Nanos than in the past 2 years.

I brilliant programme. The factory could have been anywhere in the world.

No mention in the programme of Mamata or politics - great.

Mamata eat your heart out. You have pushed back re-industrialisation on Bengal by at least two decades. Maybe you have got the CMs chair so do not care.

Impressive. So much of efforts have been put into this project. Wish TATA makes this even a bigger success shortly.

True that!! Singur was a total blunder. All an all, the episode was brilliantly directed. Showed the will power of a great man called Mr. Ratan Tata.
