Re: Zippo Lighters - You Own

Nice thread ruchirtnt.

Zippos are a collector's item even for non-smokers. Classic finish and timeless quality and design. Just a word of caution though. The market is flooded with fakes. So just make doubly sure that it is an original. After all, 2k for a lighter is lot. And buy a maintenance kit along with it if you plan to use it regularly.

It's an old American icon brand much like a Harley. It uses a traditional style and doesn't operate with gas but fuel and a wicker. The ignition is not electronic either. It's the same old design that's going on for generations. You can light up even in strong wind on the beach.
Lot of non-smokers also carry it in America for those moments where you need some naked fire for some reason.
I am ever grateful to Zippo because I kicked the 28-year old habit within two months of getting one May be not connected but I am grateful really.

I had to carry one in my denims and whenever friends picked a cigarette i had this nifty trick of lighting it. Like hitting the closed zippo on the thigh and lifting it up again while rubbing against the thigh leading to the flame.

Since we have started a zippo thread, does anyone have any tricks of lighting a Zippo? Thats the only trick i know of and i can do it with my forearm also but not as efficiently. My best friend has a trick in which he can snap the fingers and zippo lights. Not yet learnt it though.

Share your zippo stories and tricks too. If moderator can add "Zippo tricks" to the title.

I have story, about a frayed pair of denims ,and a stuck wheel on my zippo, doing what you have described .
I guess you can see where that went.

^^ Going by the looks of it I guess it will sandpaper its way out of your jeans by the end of the day.

Also if you run out of fuel you can light a match on that body.

Haha Maybe you kinda overdid it. Or you were on fire that day. I can only imagine your plight.

Has anyone tried fire tricks with hand sanitisers and zippos?

P.s how to spot a fake zippo?

Cheers

Re: Zippo Lighters - You Own

Please allow me to show three Zippos that I presently have.
Zippo Lighters - You Own-002.jpg
The yellow one is made of brass. It has a small sign of an armour engraved in the bottom, indicating that the metal in it is slightly thicker than the other conventional Zippos. I have also lost two Zippo lighters earlier. Out of them one was stolen and I left one by mistake in a taxi.
I also have a catalogue of Zippo lighters and accessories, which I could not upload because the pdf file stood at slightly over 13mb. Please PM me if anyone of you ever need one. But it is two year old and is very much possible that new lighters have come up in the market, which is not shown in it.
Regards,
Rahul

Na i guess you shouldnt trust ebay regarding zippos. Why not buy it from the local stores. No waiting period and you get the original.

@superutp yep time to start collecting. Even though im a non smoker. But watching Mad Men makes me want to own a zippo again.

Cheers

Re: Zippo Lighters - You Own

got my first Zippo (B02 matte black) in the late 90s; had to save for couple of months to get one as spending 2k on a lighter was unheard of!

last year i got my self my second one (H10), again a matte black.

I have a regular Zippo Spectrum. Bought it in 2007 from Dubai.
