Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Does Airtel have any unlimited plan? Their website only shows FUP plans. Don't know if they have v fiber in Kolkata. Currently paying Rs. 767 pm for unlimited 80mbps connection (Alliance). They have been down for a week after the cyclone. Jio Fiber doesn't seem to be available in my location.

You'll have to pay 299/month extra to convert the FUP plan to unlimited. It's applicable for all Airtel broadband plans barring the VIP plan which already offers unlimited data.

I have ACT Lightening (200 Megs) and very happy with it. But would like to move to Jio for the unified experience.
I am on ACT Blaze (100 Mbps) and am fairly happy with the service. Downtimes are resolved quite quickly once you raise a ticket in their mobile app.

But when I saw the Jio Fiber plans, I noticed they are offering the 250 mbps plan at the same price as my current 100 mbps ACT plan. But I am unsure if downtimes would be resolved by Jio as quickly as ACT.

Not sure whether to take the plunge. Any reviews on the Jio service in Bangalore would be very helpful.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

ACT doesn't make sense now. Airtel has a 200 mbps plan for Rs.1000 a month (including GST if you pay for a year in advance) with free Amazon Prime and Zee5 subscriptions thrown in. Even ACT's 100 mbps plan costs more than that.

Waiting for my current ACT subscription to expire in a couple of weeks, after which I will switch to either Airtel or Jio Fiber.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Called Jio and was told they offer only fiber optic, for which they would need to do some digging within my apartment complex to lay the cables, and our apartment association is not agreeing to that.

So finally switched to Airtel yesterday. Paid Rs.12,024 for the entire year. 200mbps/300 GB per month. So far so good.

ACT service had regressed and their plans seem to be considerably more expensive.

300Gb is not sufficient these days imho. With Ps4 gaming, netflix, prime, hotstar on three tvs, we cross 500Gb each month without any downloads. Atleast this is my scenario for a family of 5 with two teen kids.

I have the option to pay Rs.300 more per month for unlimited data. If I exhaust my 300GB for a month, I will just buy more data. I think that should be possible. Will ask nevertheless, thanks for pointing it out.

PS: I have only one brat who is 8, and only one TV so far.

Though the senior folks tend to watch a lot. Let me see how it goes.

True, i have the 999 plan (200 Mbps/300GB) and i easily cross 300 GB with multiple devices (including Firestick/Chromecast on TV).

There is an option to top up 299 for unlimited data (i think its not unlimited in true sense but capped to 3300 GB).

I had heard some horror stories with Airtel, one of my colleagues is stuck with it and makes our online meetings a pain due to the quality of the link. But then this may be specific to a certain area.
On the speeds, you are right, I'm paying close to 1000/pm for a 75Mbips.
The thing that has worked in its favour has been the reliability, this was also the reason I went in to continue with a long term plan.

Please raise a tciket indicating the down time, they adjust the billing cycle accordingly. My experience stems from a few broken connectivity issues several years ago. In the recent past, haven't faced any significant downtime.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Service (both internet and customer) depends heavily on the area one is in. Same service provider, great in one area, horrible in another.

My apartment complex has ACT as the major provider. Consistent uptime, rare outages and none that have lasted more than a couple hours, in the year+ we've lived here.

Rare occasions when we need it, we have our own escalation contact, and a dedicated email address to write to.
