I think as per trai rules, speeds of 256 and above are called broadband. I am struck with just 150 kbps reliance wimax. Paying Rs. 850 per month. This is the only internet connection that works well in our area.

Wow! Your service provider is minting money from you! Change it asap. I pay 1000 bucks for 512kbps per month UL (as mentioned earlier in this thread) and that too is reimbursed by my employer!

I know guys! However, my cable guy was monopolistic. Nobody else offered services. He is providing Pacenet, Sify and IOL. The rates are same for all three. This month Airtel came and setup. Now it's time to switch.

Bsnl Evdo 2mbps Unlimited at 750rs per month including rental of usb device and taxes.

However, speeds fluctuate with signal strenth.

And the performance like that of Bajaj bikes, is never consistent. Rapid share does not work on Evdo btw! I get download speed of 80 kbps on direct downloads and 20-30kbps on torrents.

Airtel Unlimited 990 plan, Rs 990 pm + phone charges, don't know whether there are any free calls. Getting about 40 Kbps download speed on an average.

Recently shifted over to BSNL Home 500 C+ plan. They charge me 480 pm plus taxes. 2.5 gb free pm during regular hours. Nights (2 to 8am) is unmetered.

And the speed is mind blowing by the normal standards in this country. Yesterday night there were three huge files downloading via torrent. The maximum download speed on one torrent was reaching upto 175 kbps whereas the other two were hovering between 50 and 85 kbps. On another occasion a solitary torrent was downloading at somewhere close to 300 kbps. Then again, torrents are dependent on many factors. The speed testing sites tell me a download speed of upto 900 kbps :-o

EDIT: Oh! By the way I just now tested my speed again at speedtest.net (through their Mumbai server). Its mind boggling.
