I am planning to take one more Broadband connection since Tata has been having frequent connectivity issues. Any idea how sify works in Chennai. I did read some bad reviews dated 2005-06. Has things changed since then?

Their internet cafes are, or were a few years back, good... don't know about domestic broadband.

I'd say that for speed and service, you have a choice of two serious suppliers: BSNL or Airtel.

No doubt holes can be knocked in both: I just left BSNL (several years) for an Airtel connection, with which, so far (a couple of months) I am very happy.

How wealthy are you? Airtel are just now launching a 16Mb service! At a price, of course, but it is a step in the right direction of Broadband in India becoming actually Broadband in India

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Have a BSNL broad band at home. Pay Rs.700 for a 256kpbs unlimited.

The same plan has been modified recently to give 2MBPS speed upto 6GB and back to the original speed after that I guess.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I have a cable broadband service from a local service provider named BBNL in Bangalore. The plan is 5 Mbps with 30GB monthly limit for Rs.800/month. The download speeds are good and consistent and I am happy with the connection. I was an Airtel customer, but had to go for BBNL as there was no other service provider when I moved into my flat.

Absolutely unlimited usage across three computers at any one point of time. 1500 per month. Tikona Broadband.
Between me, my wife, my Dad and Mum we consume scads of gigs.
The speeds are also quite excellent indeed.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I pay 1900 for airtel 4Mbps unlimited with fair usage limit till 75 GB.

Recently got a call from airtel to avail 8Mbps speed for additional 300 Rs, offer looked tempting but I turn it down.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I use Tata Photon+ and they charge Rs.1,084 every month for 5 GB at about 512 kbps and beyond 5 GB it drops to 64 kbps. They advertise 3.1 Mbps but you would see those speeds only in specific areas, such as at the airports. I did notice that during power cuts, the speed does increase to about 800 kbps so their issues are probably with overselling their bandwidth.

Sweet. Unfortunately, they're not available in my area.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Just cancelled Reliance WiMax Connection as it was tooo costly. I was paying Rs. 1685 for 600kbps connection.

Planning to switch to BSNL for 4mbps connection which is just Rs. 1350 + 250 Free Calls

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Their company provided routers are rubbish. I ve got my own D Link which works very well for me.
The best part of this is seamless and peaceful wi fi. As I write, Im on my Macbook upstairs and my Mum is on her iPad downstairs and my iPad is merrily downloading emails in tandem.
I forgot- both my wife's and my smartphones are also showing full home wi fi signal and emails appear to be clicking in there too.
So basically I guess that the 3 computer limit is not really being enforced by Tikona.
The power of technology is truly amazing - for one like me who is about as far away from tech as possible!

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I have access to a couple of 1Gbps pipes at work. In addition I have a Tata Photon Plus on Rs.2401 or is it 2,501 for one year and 10GB or so which I use at home and when travelling.
