Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Folks, what is the update on the promised 50Mbps speed by Hathway in Bangalore ? How is the performance ? As I read somewhere it's 50Mega Bits per second and not Megabytes per second, is it the case so ?

Does it drop too frequently ? And does there connection require a modem ?

My cousin went for Bhawani Hathway in Chembur - it's terrible. Atrocious, really. On the days it's working, there is atleast one or two outages in the day for 15-20 minutes. Some days it's for 1 hour or more. Now for last 4 days, he has been getting a speed of 0.5 Mbps (His plan is for 4 Mbps). And of course, the outages also continue.

It's a truly miserable provider.

This is how every ISP mentions its speeds, always in 'bits' and not bytes. Though at the elementary 'data package' level, byte is the unit of transfer. It looks good. 512 Kilo bits per second look better than 50-ish Kilo Bytes per second.

Anyone using fivenet broadband in Chembur here? Is it reliable, is it fast? What plans are you subscribing to? Asking for a friend who is having a miserable time with Hathway Bhawani and looking to shift.

I am using the 40bmbps plan in Blr. It has a fibre optic modem. I have FTTH connection. Speed is incredible and need at least 100gb to suffice my requirements. Mostly youtube streaming in HD takes alot of data.

An , is the ACT working right now after the rains ?? Mine has been down for a week now, has been intermittent during the rains. Dont know when it would be restored, their customer service does not seem to be the best!!

The BSNL seems to been holding fort throughout. Right now I have exhausted my mobile data, and do not know the BSNL data used. Hope they restore the ACT soon.

Where are you in Chennai? ACT started working for me from 4th Dec onwards (was off between 2nd to 4th) though intermittently. From 7th on wards was back to full strength.

I'm in NGO colony, Adambakkam

Good to hear. I stay at anna nagar.. What is annoying is the customer service, since they say its 72 hrs, but its twice the time, and still no update.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Guys, I am using Spectranet broadband. I must say, they have fantastic packages and speeds. I get 20Mbps with unlimited data usage. Plus point is that, they do not have any FUP also. So the speed does not drop at any point in time.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Cherrinet.in in Adyar, Chennai. Rs.1499 for 100 mbps, 125 GB FUP. Fiber to the home.

Other tarriffs here -

http://www.cherrinet.in/pages/plans.php

Note - if you buy this, either use it with ethernet, or use a faster router (not the N150 / N300 etc routers .. as a rule of thumb those will run to /10 of the speed - say 15 mbps, 30 mbps).

Buy a wifi router that supports 802.11ac - such as netgear R6220 which is an AC1200 router (so top speed 120 mbps, will get you 97 or 98 mbps with your cherrinet).

The connectivity is a bit flaky but the team is responsive.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Got the 8Mbps, 60GB plan from BSNL, for Rs.1091/- + tax. Download speed has been showing up to be over and above 70% of the rated speed whenever checked on speedtest.net. Very satisfied with this plan, since the last 2 months of switch.

My friend shifted to Fivenet from Bhawani Hathway. And his verdict after 4 days is it's far more reliable than Bhawani Hathway. Only hassle with fivenet is that you have to pay a year in advance.
