A fourth of the world's blind live in India and poor knowledge about eye donation has left most of them impaired for life. More than four million Indians are affected by corenal blindness and 90% of them are below the age of 40.

Unfortunately, in India there is an acute shortage of donor eyes, as a result of which thousands of blind persons registered with the eye banks have to wait for years before the donor eyes become available. In contrast, in Sri Lanks the number of eyes donated is ten time their national requirement. You too have the power to make the blind see by pledging to donate your eyes to the eye bank after your demise

Timing is crucial as the corneas must be removed within eight hours of death preferably used within three days. Corneal excision takes about 20 minutes and causes no disfigurement to the face of the donaor. The donor cornea is subjected to medical evaluation and those that are suitable are used for transplantation while other are invaluable for research.

off late a lot of eye banks visit colleges and create an awareness abt eye donation. i've pledged mine 5 years ago.
