Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first elected black president and a global anti-apartheid icon has died early today aged 95, President Jacob Zuma said.
“Fellow South Africans, our beloved...the founding president of our democratic nation, has departed,” Mr. Zuma said in a nationally televised address.
He passed away peacefully at 20:50 (local time), December 5, Mr. Zuma said.
“He is now resting. He is now at peace...Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father,” he said.

RIP.... He has always been an inspiration to the rest of the world. A good soul will be missed.
Rest in peace, Sir. One of the few great men who lived for others than himself.

RIP Sir. Your kind of greatness will not grace us or pass this way again.
RIP Madiba. What is shocking is the total absence of any mention of the other part of the duo FW de Klerk. It needed two statesmen to avoid bloodshed in the transformation from an Apartheid regime to to multi-plural democracy.
RIP sir, you will always be remembered for your greatness and love for your people.
South Africa today rises to a morning without one of its selfless founding fathers. Rest in peace, Madiba!
