re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Investigators looking into Michael' accident are confident that speed was not a key contributor. They have got a Go Pro camera mounted on Michael' helmet which was not only rolling when he crashed, but it shows “in perfect clarity” what happened.

re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Although I have very limited knowledge and interest in F1, I just saw Rush on the weekend and that led me to research on F1. Amazing that Schumacher holds the record for winning 7 championships. This could be under threat now from Vettel (4 in succession)

Rush is about Niki Lauda and James Hunt. Niki Lauda won it 3 times and would have had a 4th one in 1976 but for his horrible accident. Do remember the name from my school days.

Really sad.

Quote:
Doctors battling to save the life of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher have no plans to wake him from the coma, it was claimed today.

Neurosurgeons at the hospital in Grenoble where the 45-year-old race ace is being treated have still not revealed any date when they may try to bring him out of the coma.

And authoritative German news magazine Focus reported today: “Fears grow for Schumi - still no date for an awakening.”

Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is in danger of being in a persistent vegetative state, known as Apallic Syndrome, according to an Austrian news website.

“People with Apallic Syndrome do show responses equivalent to waking up, showing anger, hunger or pleasure but not with the consistency that you and I would show.”

His agent said:

Sabine Rehm said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press Thursday that
Quote:
"Michael's sedation is being reduced in order to allow the start of the waking-up process, which may take a long time."
Finally!

re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

Michael is “responding to instructions” as medics gradually bring him out of his coma, according to reports. It has also been alleged that the seven-time world champion has blinked during brain tests.

Citing “very reliable sources”, L’Equipe newspaper said Schumacher has undergone a number of neurological tests since Monday and he has responded “positively”.

Hope this is true. Forza Michael!

re: Michael Schumacher in critical condition. UPDATE: Out of coma and back home!

He was put in coma to reduce the swelling and give the brain a rest. Its good news that he is responding well.I think after more tests they will bring down the sedation.
The severity of the brain trauma determines if he would suffer memory or skill loss which would be confirmed at a later stage.
I just wish he gets better.

Schumacher fights a bout of pneumonia during awakening process!

Schumacher fights a bout of pneumonia during awakening process!

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher is in the process of fighting off a bout of pneumonia during the week of his awakening from an induced coma, at Grenoble University Hospital in France.

Bild reports that doctors treated the pneumonia with a course of strong antibiotics, but it is not known if the awakening process has been paused during the episode.

Professor Heinz Peter Moecke, Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Asklepios Clinic in Hamburg, explained to Bild: “One of the reasons he may have contracted pneumonia is because the endotracheal tube does not allow a patient to cough and rid the throat of secretions.”
